1. Objective of the assignment
The assignment is located in the Office of the Deputy Director General (ODDG) of the Regional and National Development Sector. The ODDG supports the Deputy Director General (DDG) to enable him to fulfill his functions smoothly and effectively.
The Regional and National Development Sector leverages its unique knowledge of and engagement with Member States and regions to reinforce the more effective use of IP for growth and development. It does this by connecting the expertise, services and tools that WIPO offers with the needs and priorities of our Member States and national and regional stakeholders.
The Program Support Consultant facilitates the coordination of the work of the Sector and contributes to the management of the ODDG.
The incumbent will work closely with colleagues in the ODDG as well as in the Department for Development Cooperation, WIPO Academy, the Development Agenda Coordination Division and the Division for External Offices and Least-Developed Countries, Land Locked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States in support of the effective and efficient functioning of the Sector.
2. Deliverables/services
(a) Coordinate and contribute to the preparation of briefing material for the Deputy Director General’s visits to Member States and in close coordination with the Deputy Director General’s front office, ensure effective logistical arrangements are put in place for such visits. Ensure the effective planning and managing of the Deputy Director General’s engagements in Geneva.
(b) Coordinate the preparation and provision of briefings and other Sector’s documents for the Director General and the Deputy Director General. Assist in the organization, administration and servicing of meetings and events; compile and draft background and other preparatory materials and presentations; draft summary reports on meeting recommendations and follow up on the implementation of delegated actions and initiatives.
(c) Undertake research on selected aspects of programs, operations and activities and assigned topics; analyze and present data, statistics and other information gathered from diverse sources.
(d) Prepare progress reports on status of projects and Sector’s plan of activities; contribute to the drafting of responses to queries concerning the Sector’s program of work.
(e) Liaise and coordinate with other Sectors to facilitate the effective flow of information, ideas and decisions to and from the Sector. Provide suggestions and advice for the improvement of this flow of information.
(f) Contribute to the efficient work planning of the Sector by monitoring work unit submissions to the Program of Work and Budget, the WIPO Performance Report and other regular programmatic reports; follow up to ensure timely and quality delivery of submissions. Monitor the implementation of annual workplans of the work units.
(g) Contribute to the development and implementation of the Sector’s communication strategy, including social media. Make recommendations for improving communications.
(h) Support to the Deputy Director General of RNDS as required.
(i) Perform other related duties as required.
3. Reporting
The incumbent reports to the Counsellor, ODDG.
4. Profile (e.g. area of specialization/expertise, specific knowledge/skills/experience)
Education
Essential
First-level university degree in law, international relations, public administration, or other relevant field.
Experience
Essential
At least 3 year’s professional experience, including experience in planning and budgeting and in
coordinating activities and programs.
Desirable
Experience in the field of intellectual property.
Experience working in an international organization and/or in an Executive Office.
Languages
Essential
Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English.
Desirable
Knowledge of French or other UN official languages.
5. Duration of contract and payment
The length of the consultancy will be 7 months (January to July, 2025). Applicants are requested to provide an indication of their remuneration expectations in Swiss francs (daily rate).
