JOB DETAIL

Mission and objectives

UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to help and protection to a population of 5.7 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank, and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA’s services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance, and emergency assistance. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.

Context

In the current digital age, social media platforms have become powerful tools for disseminating information and fostering community engagement. It presents an opportunity to reach a broader audience and engage the Palestine refugees in Syria more effectively. However, maximizing this potential requires a dedicated and skilled team that understands the nuances of the Syrian social media landscape. Our communications department, while effective in reaching the targeted audiences in all 4 other field offices, is currently unable to reach the Palestine refugees in Syria due to limitations and restrictions on social media advertising in Syria by most platforms. As seen in the figures below, the online followers from that region only represent 5% of the total audience, despite it being one of the biggest Palestine refugee communities. Therefore, expanding our reach within the Syrian social media sphere requires more human resources and specialized skills in social media management, and community engagement. To address this, we propose the recruitment of a small team of online volunteers to assist our communications department in boosting our online presence, expanding our follower base, and enhancing engagement with the Palestine refugees in Syria through social media.

Task Description

1) Audience Engagement: o Engage with Palestine refugees in Syria, as well as local institutions, organizations and influencers affiliated with Palestine refugees to boost visibility. o Respond to comments, messages, and create positive and responsive interactions. 2) Analytics & Reporting: o Monitor social media outreach content performance through analytics tools, identifying key metrics for growth such as audience engagement, reach, and follower demographics. o Provide feedback and recommendations on the effectiveness of outreach content and its format. The focus will be on the most widely used platforms by Palestine refugees in Syria: • Facebook: Given its widespread use in Syria, and our Facebook page being our biggest platform in terms of both reach and followers. Facebook will be a key platform for community engagement. • Instagram: Although not as widely used as Facebook, Instagram remains popular among younger demographics, an audience we need to engage in Syria.
