This position is located in ECLAC, Santiago. The Senior Editorial Assistant reports to the Chief of the Documents and Publications Division. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region’s economic and social development. Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Senior Editorial Assistant may be responsible for the following duties: • Supervises the Dissemination and Marketing Unit of the DDP, prepares editorial marketing strategy and oversees the related dissemination activities and materials. • Oversees uploading of publications to the Publications website and other dissemination platforms and prepares related metadata. • Coordinates and oversees the design of promotional pieces for dissemination. • Provides advice and orientation to clients on legal-editorial matters and assistance to the Chief of Division and the Publications Committee in decisions on copyright-related issues and on editorial policy. • Regularly updates the ECLAC Editorial Policy manual to guide the publishing work of the Commission. • Coordinates and provides legal-editorial input for special/ad hoc editorial projects. • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as the preparation of data presentations and reports for information-sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision-making. • Assists with visualizations and updating of information material such as web pages or brochures. • Systematically organizes research materials in hardcopy and/or electronic folders for ready use by editors. • Creates other language versions of texts received in English only. Identifies precedents and prepares translations of new portions of texts. • Follows complex set of guidelines to identify documents to be published in quarterly supplements and prepares detailed checklist of those documents and all other documents issued in a quarter. Provides material to be used by editors to verify the accuracy of all information given in checklist. • Performs some informal editing functions and brings errors in text to the attention of the responsible editor. • Prepares electronic versions of texts to be edited in accordance with established formats. Identifies and applies a series of complex macros. • Liaises with editors to ensure that all editorial changes are made; clarifies and finalizes changes ensuring that any additional revisions are included in the final version. • Ensures typographical accuracy in conformity with UN editorial rules and style. • Provides technical assistance to editors. • Performs other related work as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. NOTE: For positions in the General Service category, candidates are required to clearly indicate in their Applicant Profile (AP) relevant information confirming completion of High School.
Job – Specific Qualification
Successful completion of either degree or non-degree post-secondary programme in editorial, digital marketing, legal or related areas is desirable.
Work Experience
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in legal, editorial and communicational aspects of publications is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to eight (8) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in copyright and intellectual property matters is required. Experience in digital editorial dissemination in the context of international organizations is desirable. One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in Spanish and English is required. Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
