Duties and Responsibilities
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region’s economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. The internship in the Human Resources Section, Division of Administration, Santiago, will last 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an “as-needed” basis. The intern will be under the supervision of the Chief of the Human Resources Section and will work directly with the Human Resources Data Analysis Assistant. Responsibilities: Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the internship period. Duties may include: • Supports research activities focused on HR data analysis related issues. • Assists in the compilation of HR related data. • Provides support to maintain databases containing HR related statistics and indicators. • Helps identify errors and inconsistencies in data and proposes solutions. • Assists in the preparation of data sets and other inputs to support the preparation of periodic reports and other information products. • Contributes to the search for data visualization tools to develop innovative data products. • Provides support in the preparation of newsletters and other products related to data analysis activities. • Performs other duties as assigned. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and needs of the Unit at the time of the start of the internship.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation. For this internship, studies in the areas of Management, Human Resources, Data Management and other related areas is desirable. Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. Studies in data management / analysis is desirable. For this internship experience in preparation, delivery and data visualization and preparation of reports is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in Spanish and English is required.
