Mission and objectives

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the centre of all its efforts, the UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

Context

UN Women promotes women’s participation and leadership in all aspects of peacebuilding, humanitarian response, recovery and reconstruction. In 2025, the 25th anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on WPS will take place. In the lead up to the anniversary, UN Women Europe and Central Asia is strengthening its communication activities on WPS. Task Description

We are looking for experienced and creative Online Volunteers who will support the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Policy Advisor with the implementation of a communications campaign on the 25th anniversary of the WPS 1325 UN Security Council resolution and on UN Women’s WPS activities in the Europe and Central Asia region more broadly. The Online Volunteers will help to: – Raise awareness about the WPS & YPS agenda’s significance, achievements, and the remaining gaps​ – Amplify voices and promote achievements of CSOs and women leaders in peacebuilding and the security sector.​ – Design social media posts and creating communications messages The Online Volunteer will be guided by the WPS Policy Advisor. For close coordination and discussion, the Online Volunteer is expected to be available for calls via Zoom/Microsoft Teams. This assignment provides Online Volunteers with an opportunity to develop and strengthen their skills in communication, networking within the communications team and other learning experiences.
