icddr,b is inviting young, bright individuals, who are aspiring to develop their careers as public health researchers in the dynamic research environment, to apply for the position of Research Investigator under the Maternal and Child Health Division.
The USAID/Bangladesh’s Strengthening Local Level Health Systems (SLLHS) Activity is a project managed by a consortium, where icddr,b is the “Country Anchor Partner”. SLLHS is supported by USAID with a vision to develop a health system in Bangladesh that can enable universal health coverage (UHC) by delivering high-performing, responsive, equitable, resilient, and adaptive services, which are effectively planned for and managed by skilled and accountable district and upazila health managers.
Working under the SLLHS Activity and reporting to the Scientist, the Research Investigator will be responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and coordinating research ideas with strong background in data management, analysis and data interpretation to attain project objectives within the guidelines of the research protocol and organizational values. The specific areas of responsibilities are detailed below:
- Generate new research ideas, formulate research questions with a focus on equity and health system gap;
- Develop research methodology in consultation with the team to answer research questions and design overall strategy to implement the studies under the project;
- Develop data collection tools and finalize the tools after pretesting;
- Train staff on data collection, supervise data collection and ensure quality data acquisition from health facilities;
- Apply critical analysis for internal data validity and conduct rigorous scientific analysis to derive meaningful inferences from data;
- Resolve queries and issues related to statistical analysis;
- Prepare dashboard, reports and presentations;
- Present findings to other scientists and seek inputs;
- Discuss preliminary findings with key stakeholders, especially with government health policy planners and donors;
- Write up findings as reports, scientific manuscripts, policy briefs;
- Disseminate study findings;
- Able to manage and work under stress.
Required qualification and experience
- Master’s degree in Statistics/ Applied Statistics/ Biostatistics/ Epidemiology/ Population Science from a reputed University with an excellent academic record;
- Minimum 3 years of experiences in quantitative research;
- Must have sound knowledge in data analysis using statistical package like STATA/ R / SPSS and SQL;
- Very good knowledge in Survey and Surveillance data analysis;
- Experience of working with DHIS2, MIS and epidemiological data is desired;
- Time to time field visits will be required all over Bangladesh
- Be able to work under pressure

Contract Type and Duration:
- Fixed Term; duration will be 2 years with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- Annual Tk.15,31,970/- inclusive of house rent, conveyance and other admissible benefits;
- 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,917/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
