Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Mine Action Section within the Office of Deputy of Special Representative of the Secretary-General (Political) of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). The Associate Data Analyst reports to the UNSMIL Chief Mine Action Section. The focus of these jobs is to generate data-driven analyses and insights in support of decision-making processes.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Data Analyst will be responsible for the following duties: (These duties are generic and may not be performed by all Associate Data Analysts.) • Develop process improvement mechanisms for mine action data analytics tasks • Acquire data from primary or secondary sources and verifies data integrity of reports uploaded in the Information Managment System for Mine Action (IMSMA) database • Implement capacity building support to the Libyan Mine Action Center (LibMAC) and mine action partners on the management of the IMSMA database, data collection , data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality of reporting • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, and decision making. • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as webpages or brochures • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns, using basic machine learning techniques, statistical methods to identify relevant features and variables in structured sources of information and data • Create reports, maps, charts and dashboards on the explosive ordnance threat and respond to ad-hoc queries • Provide advice on how mine and explosive remnants of war related data can be utilized to improve decision making within UNSMIL and at national level in Libya Research approaches and explore methods that will lead to innovative data products • Track and report on progress regarding department specific data initiatives • Develop reports, dashboards or other tools to effectively summarize findings and convey information to management • Document requirements, background information and methodology used for data analysis

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, information management, public administration, management or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in applied analytics, business intelligence, statistics, project management, stakeholder management or related area is required. Minimum of one year of experience in Information Management System for Mine Action is required. Experience in using data to advance decisions, strategies and execution is required. Experience with self-service analytics and data visualization applications (MS PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau or similar), or business intelligence tools (SAP Business Objects, etc.) is required. Experience in tools managing version control such as Git is desirable. Experience with database or programming languages (SQL, Python, R) is desirable. Experience in Advanced Excel and PowerPoint is desirable. Experience working with multiple stakeholders including government entities on Information Management is desirable
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position advertised, fluency in English and Arabic (both oral and written) is required.
