  1. Role and responsibilities

Generic responsibilities

These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work and Professional Development Plan.

  1. Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines.
  2. Assist implementation of the protection portfolio according to plan of action.
  3. Assist implementation of case management related activities as delegated.
  4. Assist in organization and delivery of tasks in line with established procedures, agreed priorities, international standards, and relevant guiding principles.
  5. Assist with case management for identified general protection cases at high risk and/or extremely vulnerable, in accordance with the best-practice and international protection standards.
  6. Develop and maintain knowledge of protection principles, in order to be able to apply protection approach during activities and individual case management.
  7. Assist in preparation and development of status reports as required by management.
  8. Ensure proper filing of documents.
  9. Ensure that case management services are accessible to target beneficiaries most in need and explore and assess new and better ways to assist.
  10. Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.

Specific responsibilities

These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus and type of programme intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly.

  • Build and maintain trust relationships with target communities.
  • Work in collaboration with the Case Management Officer and Protection Team Leader to undertake detailed assessments of beneficiaries.
  • Work in collaboration with the Case Management Officer and Protection Team Leader to prepare intervention plans, including care plans and case summaries following a detailed assessment of each protection case.
  • Identify general protection cases at high risk and/or extremely vulnerable, support case referrals between agencies, conduct case follow-up and complete closing procedure of the case.
  • Work with identified individuals and families to develop and implement response plans in accordance with their needs, capacities and goals.
  • Accompany cases to referral locations and conduct home visits, as needed.
  • Provide information to individuals and families about their rights and entitlements, including what services are available.
  • Record and complete data entry for the assessment care plan follow-up information in the database, in a timely manner and in accordance with relevant procedures.
  • Ensure accurate data entry of all cases received.
  • Ensure that all data and information pertaining to case management are handled in strict confidence, and in line with applicable data protection and information sharing protocols.
  • Collect information and assist in updating information on services available, and service providers and protection actors.
  • Assist in compilation of information and reports on achievements. Report internally to the Case Management Officer on weekly and monthly achievements; and for urgent cases, on a daily basis.

Generic Professional competencies:

  • Experience from working directly with affected/local communities within an international or local organization in a humanitarian context.
  • Previous experience of working in complex and volatile contexts.
  • Previous experience in conducting case management is desirable but not essential.
  • Previous experience in protection-related activities is highly desirable.
  • Basic knowledge or interest in understanding international standards, and Protection fundamental concepts and guiding principles, is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to analyses and integrate information from a wide range of sources.
  • Knowledge of IT tools (MS Office package, internet, e-mail, etc.)
  • Some knowledge of English.

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • Knowledge of the context in the geographical area of responsibility is essential.
  • Knowledge of the local language
