Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Office for Coordination and Shared Services (OCSS), serving the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and Peace Operations (DPO). The Programme Management Officer reports to the Senior Programme Management Officer. The Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) focuses primarily on five action areas in international peace and security, ensuring sound analysis and early warning, preventing conflict and engaging in peacemaking, managing political crises and violent conflicts, sustaining peace, and enhancing partnerships. The Department’s mandate is to prevent and resolve conflict through inclusive political solutions. The Department of Peace Operations (DPO) provides political and executive direction to UN peacekeeping operations around the world and maintains contact with the Security Council, troop and financial contributors, and parties to the conflict in the implementation of Security Council mandates. The Department works to integrate the efforts of UN, governmental and nongovernmental entities in the context of peacekeeping operations. DPO also provides guidance and support on military, police, rule of law, mine action and other relevant issues to other UN political and peacebuilding missions.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Programme Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Develops, implements and evaluates programmes/projects to improve gender parity and inclusion in DPPA-DPO, as well as for uniformed personnel.; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and initiates corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; ensures follow-up actions. • Plans workshops, other interactive sessions and develops action plans to manage the change. • Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources. • Coordinates policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies, • Generates survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identify problems/issues and prepares conclusions. • Organizes and prepares written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. • Provides substantive backstopping to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc. • Initiates and coordinates outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, makes presentations on assigned topics/activities, etc: • Coordinates activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme programme budget, etc.). • Performs other duties as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in administration, management, international relations or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area is required. Experience working on gender parity issues is desirable. Experience organizing large scale events is desirable. Experience advising senior management is desirable. Experience with uniformed personnel is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in both oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
