1.     Organizational Context

 

 

 

 

a.    Organizational Setting

 

 

 

 

The post is located in the Publications and Design Section of the WIPO Information and Digital Outreach Division. The Division is responsible for delivering communications strategies and content that explain the intellectual property system in an engaging and informative way, and contribute to better understanding worldwide of WIPO’s role and services.

 

 

 

 

b.    Purpose Statement

 

 

 

 

The Publications and Design Section is responsible for developing and implementing WIPO’s corporate visual identity, both external and internal facing. We manage the production of editorial and graphic design content for WIPO’s diverse public information materials and campaigns, in multiple languages and formats, and we are responsible for Organization-wide editorial policies and publications quality control to strengthen communications and ensure consistency with the WIPO brand.  The incumbent is responsible for conceiving and delivering high quality design and graphic layout for a wide variety of visual assets to support WIPO’s digital communications.

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Graphic Designer, under the overall responsibility of the Head of the Publications and Design Section.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2.     Duties and Responsibilities

 

 

 

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:

 

 

 

 

a.  In collaboration with the Graphic Designer and working within WIPO’s digital publishing platform, execute design projects from inception to final artwork and production for all WIPO’s diverse promotional, event-related and public information products in digital – whether static, responsive or animated – and print form. Apply the latest techniques to produce creative graphic design and artwork which support WIPO’s brand identity and website universal look and feel, across a variety of products and online channels.

 

 

 

 

b.  In collaboration with the Graphic Designer, take forward the continuing development and implementation of WIPO’s corporate visual identity, including the development of design guidelines for use by external service providers, and the provision of advice and expertise to staff and other stakeholders in this respect, with particular attention to their application to digital-only content, in line with user interface (UI) best practices, including accessibility.

 

 

 

 

c.  In collaboration with the Web Communications, News and Media and Customer Experience teams, create visual content for the WIPO website, corporate presentations, social media, and WIPO’s other digital platforms, including development of templates for static and responsive digital content, compliant with UI best practices.

 

 

 

 

d.  Conceive and implement the design of publications in HTML, PDF and EPUB3, including WIPO’s flagship economics and statistical publications and the WIPO Magazine, leveraging the automated layout possibilities of the WIPO’s digital publishing system.

 

 

 

 

e.  Verify and revise work undertaken by external designers and animators, as required, and ensure quality control and compliance with WIPO’s corporate visual identity and UI best practices.

 

 

 

 

f.   Assist in sourcing and maintaining a pool of external design suppliers.

 

 

 

 

g.  Support the consistent branding and visual identity of WIPO’s video and photographic products. Provide expert advice to internal clients on design and visual communications solutions for digital products.

 

 

 

 

h.  Perform other related duties as required.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3.     Requirements

 

 

 

 

Education (Essential)

 

First-level-university degree in graphic design, visual communication, or other relevant field.

 

 

 

 

Experience (Essential)

 

At least six years of experience in delivering high-end graphic design services in an international setting.

 

 

 

 

Experience in the application and development of corporate identities.

 

 

 

 

Experience of managing multiple, complex design projects in a client-facing role.

 

 

 

 

Experience of contributing design inputs within multi-disciplinary teams.

 

 

 

 

Extensive experience of working with texts in other languages, including non-Latin scripts.

 

 

 

 

Experience in the creation of designs for digital-first and digital-only products and platforms.

 

 

 

 

Experience of reviewing the work of other designers and giving constructive feedback.

 

 

 

 

Experience in the application of accessibility and UI best practices.

 

 

 

 

Experience (Desirable)

 

Experience in the use of XML-based publishing workflows and templates.

 

 

 

 

Experience in using Canva.

 

 

 

 

Experience in using online data visualization tools, such as Datawrapper and Flourish.

 

 

 

 

Language (Essential)

 

Excellent knowledge of English or French and very good knowledge of the other.

Annual salary:

 

Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment.  Please note that this estimate is for information only.  The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice.  The figures quoted below are based on the November 2024 rate of 90.1%
