Job description

 

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to work in cooperation with the Sierra Leonean Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) together with other partners towards a resilient health system that is responsive to its demands. GIZ supports the MoHS in the decentralization of human resource management including health service delivery and epidemic disease surveillance and response in three Cross-Border Districts.

 

Your tasks

 

As part of our team, you’ll be involved in a variety of exciting tasks that will help you develop essential skills and gain hands-on experience on working in the field of German Technical Cooperation. You’ll work closely with a supportive and diverse team and have opportunities to make a real impact. Here’s what you’ll be working on:

  • Training & Workshop Support: Help organize and run engaging training sessions, workshops, and meetings across Freetown and key districts – Kambia, Kailahun, and Pujehun. This is your chance to develop event coordination skills while making a difference in local communities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Assist in handling inquiries from BMZ (or other stakeholders), including preparing reports and providing advisory comments. Your communication skills will be key as you help manage relationships with important partners.
  • Public Relations & Communications: Contribute to our public relations efforts by creating engaging content, updating our project’s fact sheet, and sharing project updates with the public. This is an excellent opportunity to build your writing and media relations experience.
  • Knowledge Management Support: Help maintain the quality and accessibility of our project’s knowledge base by supporting knowledge sharing and documentation. Your organizational skills will help ensure that vital information is well-managed.
  • Tender Process Facilitation: Assist in supporting the tender process, helping the team prepare and manage procurement activities. This task will give you insight into project management and procurement processes.

 

Your profile

 

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about international development and eager to make a difference. If you meet the following qualifications, we’d love to hear from you:

  • Academic Background: You are currently studying in the fourth semester or higher in International Development, Public and International Health, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Strong Communication Skills: You have excellent written and verbal communication skills and are fluent in English and German—this will be key for liaising with stakeholders and producing reports.
  • Understanding of Participatory Methods: You have a solid understanding of participatory methods and sustainable planning, with the ability to apply these concepts in practical settings.
  • Team Player: You enjoy working collaboratively in diverse teams and are open to learning from people from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Regional Experience: Experience in West Africa is a plus, giving you a valuable understanding of the region’s dynamics.

We pay a monthly stipend of €2.134,52 (gross). Depending on the country of assignment a monthly expatriation allowance (gross), predetermined by GIZ will be paid on top.
