Duties and Responsibilities
Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships: The Global Strategy and Policy Division serves as the central strategic authority for matters pertaining to the management of human resources, and ensures that the Organization can attract, develop and retain a talented and diverse global workforce. The Division provides leadership on the development, implementation, monitoring and communication of human resources strategies and revises existing or develops new policies for the Secretariat. The Division identifies, champions, develops and promulgates for implementation of modern innovative and enabling human resources policies and standards. The internship is located in the Human Resources Policy Section (HRPS) and the Field Strategy and Conditions of Service Sections (FSCS) within the Strategy and Policy Development Service (SPDS), Global Strategy and Policy Division (GSPD), Office of Human Resources (OHR), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The internship is for a period of six months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member om the team. This internship is designed to be in person to support a fully immersive experience, however interns may be allowed to telecommute for up to two days per week, subject to the needs of the team they support and assigned responsibilities. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization. Candidates will be responsible for providing all necessary computer and equipment that may be required in the performance of duties. We are looking for an intern who is interested in joining a very dynamic and international office that is in charge to develop and advise on the HR policy framework of the UN Secretariat. Daily responsibilities may include: • Organizes, classifies and catalogues physical and electronic information resources in SharePoint. • Provides specialized library services for delivery of information relevant to the Section. • Reviews a variety of sources to identify appropriate materials that meet the information needs of the Section and its information clientele. • Research electronic libraries seeking to build or strengthen digital library that focus on metadata management and creation. • Provides complete bibliographic descriptions of items to be added to the collection by identifying bibliographic elements and taking into consideration guidelines from the United Nations Archives and Records Management Section. • Participates in the creation of electronic and other reference tools, and the compilation of bibliographies. • Provides records and information management and reference services to the Section. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Interested candidates must be pursuing or pursued their degree in areas related to Human Resources, Law, Public or Business Administration, Management, Strategy, International Relations, or similar. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
