About this position
We are looking for an experienced, dedicated, and team-oriented professional to work as a Specialist in the Front Office Team within the Executive Secretariat of the Staff Retirement Plans (SRP). You will report directly to the SRP Executive Secretary. As a member of the team, you will work together with other senior team members to perform the oversight and assessment of the plan’s financial risks and actuarial valuations, as well as the development and deployment of internal analytical capacity to measure and evaluate the adequacy of policies governing the Plans’ financial sustainability, and interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
The SRP department is responsible for administering the Pension Plans, overseeing the payment of benefits under the Plans, managing the investment of assets, financial planning, carrying out the day-to-day administration of the Plans, and performing other functions outlined in the Plans’ regulations and/or delegated by the Managing Committees.
What you’ll do:
Collaborate with other teams in the department and the Bank on initiatives related to financial risk management and actuarial valuation of pension plans.
Provide an independent assessment of the financial risks in the plan’s investment portfolio. Develop metrics and key risk indicators to periodically assess the adequacy of the assets portfolio’s Strategic Asset Allocation to meet its desired objectives and the effectiveness of external managers. Investigate alternative investment strategies to mitigate and manage risks associated with large market fluctuations in the value of the plan investment assets.
Prepare periodic reports and presentations for the executive Secretary, Senior Management, and Governance Committees. Design and deploy expert reports on plans, financial risk indicators, and emerging risks. Liaison with relevant business units at the IDB and IDB Invest.
Ensure that the Plans’ actuarial valuations are properly overseen. Supervise the work and deliverables of the external actuary within the Bank’s actuarial working Group. Maintain operational excellence by promoting and implementing industry best practices internally in the oversight of the plan’s actuarial valuation process.
What you’ll need
Education: Master’s degree in financial economics, finance, mathematics, or other fields relevant to the role’s responsibilities. Member of a recognized accredited organization in actuarial practice, strongly preferred. Progress towards professional designation such as FSA or equivalent is desirable. Ph.D. is preferred but not mandatory.
Experience: At least five years of relevant professional experience in financial risk management, finance, or related areas. Specific expertise in asset-liability management, investment portfolio construction, scenario simulations, stress testing, and actuarial modeling of pensions is strongly desired. Proficiency in using MS Office and expert programming scripts and dashboards in R, Python, SQL, or other programming languages.
Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank’s official languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is required.

Type of contract and duration
International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
