JOB DESCRIPTION

Background:

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

These changes take place in a context of rapid change at global, regional and national levels for the UN development system, which UN Women is part of. As part of this change process, Business Transformation as outlet for UN Women Business Transformation was created in the Strategy, Planning, Resources and Effectiveness Division (SPRED) was created to create what is called “UN Women 2.0” – a stronger field, a nimble and effective HQ, more efficient processes, and better governance, supported by a modern and mature development organization.

Under the supervision of the Advisor – Business Transformation, and the secondary supervision of the Director SPRED, the Research and Coordination Analyst – Business Transformation contributes to the effective running of business transformation and business transformation initiatives through research and analysis products, developing and implementing select components of the business transformation plan and through technical contributions to the business transformation strategy overall.

With business transformation a key component of the Organizational Efficiency and Effectiveness section of UN Women’s Strategic Plan 2022-2025, the Analyst will work with colleagues across the house to make sure that these ambitions are realized.  Specifically, they will provide substantive inputs to the organization’s strategy relating to this part of the Strategic Plan, as well as carrying out the implementation of specific components thereof.

This is a temporary position for a duration of 364 days through to 30 December 2025. Whereas an external candidate will be offered a temporary appointment, subject to release agreements, staff members in UN Women may be administered as a temporary assignment and staff members in the UN Common system may be administered under a loan arrangement.

Key Functions and Accountabilities:

Contribute technically to the development and implementation of a business transformation and the Strategic Plan development process:

  • Prepare background documents, guidance notes, briefs and presentations related to business transformation
  • Liaise and mange relationships with all relevant focal points in UN Women to gather data, validate information and prepare appropriate communication products for internal and external use
  • Organize meetings, take minutes and ensure appropriate follow-up actions as required
  • Prepare, review and analyze papers
  • Provide operating context analysis to inform the business transformation strategy

Provide substantive analytics support to internal executive and consultative bodies on business transformation and Strategic Plan implementation:

  • Collect background information
  • Manage information and databases of all material to be discussed
  • Develop correspondence, reports, presentations, articles and other knowledge products as appropriate

Provide substantive technical assistance to UN Women’s corporate oversight of its organizational design including country, regional and headquarters typologies:

  • Collect, validate and analyze data relevant to ongoing monitoring of country, regional office and headquarters typologies
  • Provide substantive technical support to BRC Presence Governance, Annual Review and Quarterly Business Review processes
  • Provide technical support to the development and refine country, regional and headquarters typologies, ensuring they are mainstreamed into relevant planning documents

Provide substantive technical assistance to strengthening UN Women’s field and HQ architecture through specific Business Transformation engagements:

  • Coordinate with clients, develop agendas, business intelligence and strategic analysis for field and HQ business transformation engagements
  • Design, develop and facilitate sessions
  • Manage network of Change Facilitation Teams

Act as the Budget Allocation Committee Secretariat:

  • Coordinate agenda items, including receiving agenda items from submitters, and submit to BAC Co-chairs in advance for clearance
  • Develop a meeting agenda for each meeting and for ad hoc meetings where required
  • Conduct quality assurance of meeting documentation to ensure that submitted materials are reading for consideration and liaise with the submitter as required
  • Circulate cleared agenda and background documentation in advance of meetings
  • Record minutes, action items and decision, and upload to the BAC document library
  • Maintain a matrix of required actions as decided during BAC meetings
  • Maintain the BAC document library
  • Ensure alignment and information sharing as necessary with other internal committees and oversight bodies to ensure evidence-based, audit-informed, risk-aware decision-making

Provide substantive inputs to pivot to the field efforts and development of UN Women’s upcoming Strategic Plan and Integrated Budget:

  • Conduct data analysis, mapping, modelling and create knowledge products to support high level decision-making
  • Implement business transformation initiatives as set out in Strategic Plan 2022-25.
  • Contribute key inputs to upcoming Strategic Plan and Integrated Budget

Recruitment Qualifications:

Education and Certification: 

• Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/ women’s studies, international development, or a related field is required.

• A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:     

• At least 2 years of progressively responsible work experience in coordinating processes/projects, maintaining data and reviewing and analyzing processes and documents is required.

• Experience in business transformation is required.

• Experience liaising and coordinating with multiple offices is desirable.

Languages:      

• Fluency in English is required.

• Fluency in French and/or Spanish is desirable.

• Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (Arabic, Chinese or Russian).
