JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB PURPOSE

The Fellowship seeks to enhance diversity of representation in the field of international justice by offering an opportunity to young African professionals (early to mid-career practitioners and scholars) based in Africa to work on international justice issues and mechanisms. Fellows benefit from knowledge, skills and experience transfer, practical exposure to international justice spaces and forums, and the opportunity to engage and network with a variety of relevant actors and stakeholders in the international justice movement. Fellows also participate in discrete research, legal analysis, policy discourse and campaigning projects relating to international justice.

ABOUT YOU

As the International Justice in Africa Fellow, you will be fluent in written and spoken English, with good interpersonal and communication skills enabling you to work well in a team environment. You will also have the ability to accurately analyse human rights issues.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with research activities on accountability for crimes under international law in Africa and elsewhere through desk research and drafting.
  • Assist with monitoring and analysing international and regional developments on international justice issues.
  • Assist with developing advocacy positions and strategies on identified priorities relating to international justice.
  • Participate and contribute to relevant internal and external policy discussions pertaining to international justice issues and mechanisms

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Good knowledge of and experience in the application of international law, including international human rights law, humanitarian law and international criminal law is essential.
  • Ability to analyse accurately legal issues and apply legal reasoning in pursuit of developing a strategic response.
  • Ability to gather and process human rights-related information/related.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely (without the need for significant editorial revision) and proof-read research, campaign and advocacy materials.
  • Outstanding written and verbal English is essential. Fluency in written and spoken French is desirable.

Cette bourse vise à renforcer la diversité de représentation dans le secteur de la justice internationale en proposant à de jeunes actifs et actives africain.e.s (des juristes ou universitaires en début ou milieu de carrière) basés sur le continent africain de travailler sur des questions et des mécanismes en lien avec la justice internationale. Les personnes sélectionnées bénéficieront d’un partage d’expérience, de connaissances et de compétences, ainsi que d’une expérience pratique des espaces et forums dédiés à la justice internationale. Elles pourront également échanger et tisser des liens avec de nombreux acteurs du mouvement de la justice internationale. Les bénéficiaires participeront également aux recherches, aux analyses juridiques, aux échanges en matière de plaidoyer et aux projets de campagnes liés à la justice internationale.

Un poste basé à Dakar au Senegal est ouvert aux candidatures.

À PROPOS DE VOUS :

RESPONSABILITÉS PRINCIPALES :

  • Participer aux activités de recherche sur l ‘obligation de rendre des comptes pour les crimes de droit international, en Afrique comme ailleurs, notamment en menant des recherches documentaires et en rédigeant des projets de rapports.
  • Participer au suivi et à l’analyse de l’évolution des questions liées à la justice internationale à l’échelle internationale et régionale.
  • Participer à l’élaboration de positions et de stratégies de plaidoyer en s’appuyant sur des priorités préalablement identifiées en lien avec la justice internationale.
  • Assister et contribuer aux discussions sur les politiques internes et externes liées aux questions et mécanismes relatifs à la justice internationale.

COMPÉTENCES ET EXPÉRIENCE :

  • De bonnes connaissances et une expérience de l’application du droit international, notamment du droit international relatif aux droits humains, du droit international humanitaire et du droit pénal international, sont indispensables.
  • Capacité à analyser correctement les problématiques juridiques et à y appliquer un raisonnement juridique afin de mettre en place une réponse stratégique.
  • Capacité à recueillir et traiter des informations liées aux droits humains.
  • Capacité à rédiger de manière claire et concise (sans qu’une révision éditoriale approfondie ne soit nécessaire) et à relire des documents de recherche, de campagne et de plaidoyer.
