Your team

Within the The Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, Within the Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, the ATM Cooperations and Technology (ACT) domain is responsible for designing, developing, integrating and providing cutting-edge ATM data services and systems to the ATM Domain – and our OPS Room in particular – and our external partners in an equitable manner

Your role

Your role will be to:

• Perform and coordinate in-depth analysis on the quality of data sources to enable the development of applications, tools, models, dashboards, in line with MUAC operational strategy:
  • Lead the development
  • Assist and support management in the definition of the strategy regarding data science
  • Manage the lifecycle maintenance
  • Initiate incident investigation and follow up
  • Lead and/or support change management projects where data science is involved
• Conduct the assurance activities required by the internal / external guidelines and in accordance with MUAC quality processes.
• Build and maintain an internal and external network (i.e., PRISME, A.I.) and stay up to date with innovation in field of expertise.
• Analyse requirements in close collaboration with internal and external users (e.g., HR, Airspace and Network Planning, Air Navigation Service Providers), evaluate, identify, and design innovative software solutions (prototyping to final product) to satisfy business needs.
• Study new areas where data science can increase MUAC efficiency and provide support (expertise, development) to MUAC projects that have identified such areas; take part in studies and presentations.
• Liase with MUAC product team(s) that have embedded data science in their products, take care of specific engineering tasks related to those components.
• Participate in work groups, meetings, projects, presentations, and create a connect between data scientists, data engineers, DevSecOps (operational deployment) and operational users.
• Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

• Completed university studies of 4 years (Master’s degree) in a relevant domain (e.g., Data Science, Business Intelligence & analytics, big data).

  OR

  3 years plus 1-year relevant professional experience in data science.

• Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
• A minimum of 3 years’ relevant professional experience in data science.
• Experience in analytical use of data.
• Experience of developing and designing software using data sources (e.g. Oracle database).
• Experience with data science tools and processes.
• Experience with working in an Air Traffic Management (ATM) environment is considered an asset.
• Technical writing skills (English).

• Before receiving an official offer, the selected candidate will be required to provide certified copies of the degree(s) that meet the qualifications specified in the Notice of Competition for this position.
• The selected candidate will be offered a contract for a duration of five (5) years in accordance with the provisions of the Staff Regulations governing officials at EUROCONTROL. This contract may be renewed for a total duration of up to nine (9) years, or it may be converted into an undetermined contract.
• The selected candidate must successfully complete a probationary period of nine (9) months before being established in the post.
• Internal candidates
  If selected, the person will keep their current type of appointment duration (undetermined or determined).
  The internal staff member with a determined contract will be offered, in principle, an appointment for 5 Year(s) with a maximum total duration of 9 years.
• The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
• Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
