The Nigeria INGO Forum (NIF) was established in 2014 to facilitate collaboration among international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) in Nigeria for humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding efforts. It serves as a vital platform for information sharing, advocacy, and engagement with authorities, donors, and the UN, ensuring the inclusion of INGO perspectives and those of affected populations in decision-making. Governed by a core membership of 59 members and nine observers, it operates under a Steering Committee comprised of five Country Directors and a Chair, supported by a Secretariat.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate PLRCAP Learning Technical officer (Maternity Cover) to join our team in Abuja, Federal Capital. The PLRCAP Learning Technical Officer(Maternity Cover) will assist in (promoting Local Response Capacities and Partnership) accompanies Nigerian local and national civil society organizations in their organizational growth and development.

Generic Responsibilities

  • Compliance with and adherence to NRC and NIF approved policies and procedures and to and donor policies, guidance, and procedures.
  • Proactive agenda setting; facilitating a space for NGO collaboration; enabling sharing of information and analysis for effective decision-making.
  • Supporting high level representation of INGO interests in external meetings and planning efforts nationally.
  • Able to appreciate political necessity and policy issues in localization and the application of principles to programming.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Develop and Implement Capacity Strengthening Strategies: 

• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify capacity gaps and develop an organizational development plan and strategies to address them.

• Design and implement effective learning and development programs tailored to the needs of Nigerian NGOs.

• Provide guidance on best practices and innovative approaches to enhance organizational capacity.

  1. Conduct Capacity Assessments: 

• With the support of the Project Manager, adopt a participatory approach to support Nigerian NGOs (local and national) to conduct self-assessment using PLRCAP tailored tool.

• Identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement, and develop action plans to address organizational systems, structures, and staff competencies.

  1. Facilitate Training and Workshops: 

• Plan, coordinate, and ensure effective delivery of training and mentorship sessions and workshops on topics relevant to NGO capacity building, such as project management, fundraising, monitoring and evaluation, and governance, etc.

• Work closely with the Project Manager and the PLRCAP Expert facilitators and mentors to develop training materials, presentations, and other resources to support learning initiatives in line with PLRCAP vision and branding.

• Coordinate and ensure effective scheduling and provision of mentorship and coaching to NGO staff to enhance their skills and competencies.

  1. Provide Technical Assistance and Support: 

• Support Nigerian NGOs to effectively utilise the PLRCAP self-assessment tool to conduct organizational assessments and provide tailored recommendations to improve NGO effectiveness.

  1. Knowledge Sharing and Networking: 

• Stay abreast of the latest trends, innovations, and best practices in NGO capacity strengthening and organizational development.

• Foster knowledge sharing and learning among NGOs by facilitating peer learning platforms, and knowledge exchange events.

Other support:

  • Performs other relevant duties assigned and pre-agreed.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., International Development, Development Studies, Organizational Development, or any area of social sciences).

• Proven experience working in the non-governmental sector, preferably in capacity strengthening or organizational development roles.

• Familiarity with organizational assessment tools with proven experience.

• Good understanding of NGO operations, including project management, fundraising, governance, and monitoring and evaluation.

• Strong facilitation and training skills, with the ability to deliver engaging and interactive learning experiences.

• Sound knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and participatory approaches.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.

• Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for training, data analysis, and knowledge management.

• Willingness to travel domestically, as required.

Grade Level: Grade 6 in NRC’s grading structure.

Travel:  15%
