Under the supervision of WMO Energy Project Officer, in collaboration with focal points from the Chilean Meteorological Service (DMC) and the Ministry of Energy of Chile,
The incumbent will perform the following duties as the second phase of a project on development and implementation of an evaporation rate estimation model for water bodies with floating solar panels in Chile:
1. Install a meteorological station in a floating solar panel system located in Santiago, Chile. The station must include:
a) A wind sensor to measure wind speed and direction at 2 m above the surface.
b) Sensors for relative humidity and temperature near the FSPS.
c) Measurement of incident radiation on the FSPS.
d) Water balance sensors to estimate actual evaporation and water economy, including measurements of water inflows and outflows from the FSPS reservoir.
2. Collect observational data for specified parameters from the station over a minimum duration of six months.
3. Calibrate and validate the developed evaporation model (SOLEVAPP: Floating SOLar Panels EVAPoration in Python) during the first phase of the project.
4. Prepare a standard package, including open-source codes of the project in Jupyter Notebook format, a technical user manual and a recorded training, designed for the use by technical staff at NMHSs with similar needs.
QUALIFICATIONS | ||
Education Advanced university degree (preferably PhD degree or equivalent) in natural science, meteorology, climatology, hydrology or a similar field. |

Experience – At least 10 years of experience in climate services production and delivery. – Demonstrated experience in the development and application of hydrological and meteorological models and tailored services for energy systems. – Experience in developing, validating, and calibrating water evaporation models. – Strong background in analyzing weather, water, and climate data. |

Other requirements – Previous work experience in the United Nations will be an advantage. – Due to the nature of the work, only candidates currently located in Chile will be considered. |

Languages Excellent knowledge of Spanish and English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of WMO would be an advantage. (Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.) |

The consultancy duration is 40 days over a 1-year period, with a total estimated cost of USD 16,000.
