JOB DESCRIPTION

Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located within the Life Support Section in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) with duty station in Beni. The Supply Assistant will report to the Chief Rations Unit.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Supply Assistant will carry out the following duties: • Identify food requirements of contingents and determine the quantity of rations under their responsibility required for supporting the Mission. • Based on existing strength, entitlement and calorie value, review/validate food orders and ensure timely delivery of the same in cooperation with each contingent food/logistics officers. • Prepare rations delivery performance reports and budget proposals for all rations, Combat Ration Packs (CRPs) and Bottled Water (BW) under the Rations Unit/Life Support Section Cost Center. • Monitor and control the receiving of, accounting for, and issuance of all rations, CRPs and BW required by the Mission under the designated cost center. • Ensure that Purchase Orders (PO) are issued according to specifications and monitor the status of POs to avoid delays and advise the Chief Rations Unit accordingly. • Ensure the quality assurance for all rations brought in and delivered to contingents by the food supply contractor. • Communicate with the military on all matters concerning delivery of rations, inventory, consumption of ration packs, reporting of troop strength. Ensure the troops strength reported are cross verified against the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and other relevant records. • Verify the accuracy of food receiving reports from contingents. • Verify the monthly inventory reports received from each military contingent locations. • Inspect and confirm the storage facilities meet the required standards as per UN requirements. • Ensure proper record keeping as per Units Quality Assurance Plan. • Control all items subject to storage expiration and conduct a periodic physical stock checks. • Coordinate and monitor maintenance of required reserve rations at contractors’ warehouse at all times. • Coordinate with Receiving and Inspection Unit (R&I) in conducting all appropriate receiving and inspections operations. • Perform other duties as required.

Education
High School or equivalent diploma is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Technical or vocational training/certificate in food management is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in supply, inventory management, procurement, and logistics support, including at least 2 years at the international level is required. Experience in food safety management is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
