Mission and objectives
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is the leading United Nations entity in the field of human rights, with a unique mandate to promote and protect all human rights for all people.
Context
In Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Israel, the ongoing crises have led to a significant need for tracking incidents and monitoring the human rights situation. Organisations face challenges in accessing timely and accurate information on the ground. Your role as a volunteer is crucial in addressing these gaps. OHCHR gathers data from open-source platforms, including social media, to track incidents and collect essential information. This effort aims to clarify the evolving human rights situation and contribute to OHCHR’s broader reporting and advocacy objectives. Volunteers will analyse open-source information and synthesise data to inform the organisation’s strategic responses. Through this assignment, online Volunteers will not only enhance their knowledge of the human rights situation in Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Israel but also gain exposure to the practical application of qualitative and quantitative analysis methods in a conflict-affected environment. This unique learning opportunity will allow volunteers to improve their skills in data analysis, open-source research, and incident tracking. Four hours of training will be provided to online Volunteers during the orientation phase of the project. The expected start date is October 17th, 2024.
