OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Project Overview

Through a Global Youth Grant Scheme, UNESCO will invest in youth-led solutions that empower youth to apply MIL to fight discrimination. The project foresees four main components:

  • Disbursement and management of grants to support youth-led projects empowering youth to use MIL to fight racism and discrimination
  • Capacity development and mentoring of young grantees
  • Experience sharing and assessment
  • Evaluation

Overview of the Position

Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences, the guidance of the Chief of the Youth Section and the immediate supervision of the Associate Programme Specialist at the UNESCO Headquarters, the incumbent will provide specialized expertise for the implementation of the Global Youth Grant Scheme, through the following tasks:

  • Substantive coherence and coordination: ensure substantive coherence and streamlining across all project stages and chapters (grants, capacity strengthening, mentoring, communications, monitoring and evaluation), as well as in the coordination and timely execution of project activities.
  • Capacity development: support the identification of capacity gaps and consolidation of the capacity development programme for the grantees. Coordinate the organization of events such as on-site workshops, online trainings, and grantee gatherings, as well as meetings.
  • Grantee support: provide specialized guidance to grantees throughout the project implementation phase. Assist with resolving issues and ensure they receive the relevant capacity strengthening and mentoring.
  • Communications and events: develop specialized content for communication products and contribute to designing and running communication activities to raise awareness of the objectives and impact of the project.
  • Monitoring and reporting: support the design of a results-based framework to track project results and impact. Track project milestones and deliverables, ensuring all project activities are aligned with the project timeline and results framework. Provide regular updates and reports on project progress, and draft project’s final narrative report.
  • Documentation and evaluation: Support the final evaluation of the project in line with UNESCO requirements, focused on impact and learnings. Ensure proper documentation of all project activities, including evaluation reports, project deliverables, and lessons learned.
  • Partnerships: facilitate the engagement of stakeholders and contribute to identifying and mobilizing relevant partners.

  • Tailored capacity development programme addressing identified gaps of the grantees, developed delivered and evaluated.
  • 10 youth-led projects implemented in different UNESCO regions (2 per regions), with UNESCO-facilitated technical guidance, funding, capacity development and mentoring.
  • Communication products showcasing the value of youth-led action through MIL to address racism and discrimination
  • Monitoring and evaluation report presenting lessons learnt, good practices and project impact.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Advanced university degree in social and human sciences, international administration or communication and information

Work Experience

  • Between 2 and 5 years of relevant experience of which preferably 1 year acquired at international level
  • Demonstrated expertise in Media and Information Literacy
  • Demonstrated familiarity with youth-relevant programming and/or programmes addressing racism and discrimination
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating multi-stakeholder and/or multi-country initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with youth and youth-led organizations

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent drafting skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment

  • Expertise in youth leadership and meaningful youth engagement.
  • Experience in leading or supporting youth-led grassroot actions.
  • Experience in identifying and addressing capacity gaps.
  • Experience working with UNESCO programmes (HQ or Field).

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of UNESCO’s activity areas and relevant partners and donors.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English. Good knowledge of French is an asset
