Duties and Responsibilities
Background The Individual Contractor position is located within the Office of the Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Agenda in New York. The Secretary-General recognizes the critical role of the United Nations in providing the leadership and support to the member countries in facilitating and accelerating financing for sustainable development. The Secretary-General released his Strategy for Financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in September 2018 with a clear vision for transforming the global financial systems and economic policies in line with the 2030 Agenda, enhancing sustainable financing strategies and investments at regional and country levels, and seizing the opportunities presented by financial innovations, new technologies and digitalization to provide equitable access to finance. The Special Envoy will focus on global, regional and national issues related to public finance and support the implementation of the Secretary-General’s Strategy for Financing the 2030 Agenda across the United Nations system, in close collaboration with international financial institutions and the private sector. The Special Envoy will ensure that there is collective action by United Nations agencies, development partners and the private sector to work with member countries in scaling up finance for 2030 Agenda in the Decade of Action to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals, and address barriers and challenges that constrain public finance for sustainable development. The Special Envoy will work closely with the Special Envoy for Climate Action and Climate Finance, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and other relevant United Nations agencies and departments. Duties and responsibilities The Administrative Assistant will support the Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Agenda through the following activities: 1. Acts as the administrative focal point for the Special Envoy’s activities, coordinating his agenda and liaising with relevant UN agencies, missions, and external partners. 2. Supports the planning and execution of preparatory meetings, roundtables, and high-level events by developing briefing materials, background reports, key messages, talking points, and speeches, as well as managing meeting summaries, attendee tracking, reminders, thank-you emails, and follow-up actions. 3. Provides general office support, including responding to information requests, maintaining organized records, arranging meetings and workshops, and handling routine administrative tasks. 4. Collects, analyzes, and evaluates data on financing for sustainable development, and prepares reports that summarize findings, highlight key insights, and provide actionable recommendations. 5. Undertake other duties as needed.
Qualifications/special skills
A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in economics, finance, development, political science or a related field is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. No previous experience is required for this position. Knowledge of analytics tools (e.g. PowerBI, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP Business Objects, Qlik, SQL, R) is required. Excellent presentation design skills (PowerPoint) required, with knowledge of Adobe InDesign / Illustrator is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
