About IRRI

 

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.

Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.

 

Job Purpose

 

The objective of this assignment is to support the MIS team by addressing knowledge gaps in Microsoft technology solutions, improving development practices, and assisting in the transition to Microsoft cloud services. This includes optimizing workflows, system configurations, and facilitating training for the team.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities

 

The Microsoft IT Consultant will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Technical assistance to specific project

Paperless Payslip System

    • Assist the MIS on development, testing and deployment of the Institute’s digital payslip delivery system.
    • Developed in Microsoft Power Platform
  • Multi-Tenant Azure Environment Development
    • Provide expertise in developing solutions within a multi-tenant Azure environment compatible with the One CGIAR Microsoft Active Directory (AD) platform
    • Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and configuration standards appropriate for multi-tenant setups
  • Guidance on Google Docs Migration
    • Advise on handling and managing the complexity of migrating Google Docs linked within business systems (ERP, CRM) to Microsoft OneDrive or other storage
    • Assist in setting up processes for updating document links to maintain system integrity and functionality post-migration
  • Transitioning Google Sites to Microsoft Equivalent
    • Support the MIS team in transitioning from Google Sites to a Microsoft-based platform, such as Power Pages or SharePoint
    • Ensure the new platform meets functionality requirements and facilitates a smooth user experience.
  • Knowledge Transfer
    • All tasks are to be conducted collaboratively, ensuring effective knowledge transfer to the MIS team, so they can sustain and support these solutions independently post-engagement.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT consulting, specializing in Microsoft solutions

 

Skills Required

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Microsoft Power Platform Developer Associate, or equivalent certifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 administration and deployment (including SharePoint, Teams, and Power Automate)
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure services, including virtual machines, SQL databases, and cloud storage
  • Demonstrated expertise in SQL, data analysis, and Power BI
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on project guidance and knowledge transfer
  • Strong communication skills, with experience in conducting remote training and support

Preferred

  • Preferably with Google Workspace experience, specifically data migrations on cloud
  • Experience in Agile methodology, covering all aspects of software life cycle – such as, but not limited to development, scripting, unit testing, upgrades, and deployment
  • Background in non-profit IT systems (preferred)
