JOB DESCRIPTION

Background:

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The Arab States region is facing ongoing challenges that exacerbate gender inequality, including political instability, humanitarian crises, and socio-economic barriers. To address these, UN Women Regional Office for Arab States prioritizes leveraging digital platforms to amplify its work, ensure accessibility of resources, and strengthen engagement with diverse audiences. This consultancy aligns with UN Women’s commitment to enhancing its online presence to effectively communicate its mission, share knowledge, and engage stakeholders across the region. The consultant will contribute to these efforts by ensuring well-maintained, user-friendly digital platforms that reflect UN Women’s strategic priorities and branding guidelines.

The consultant will be reporting to the Regional Communication Specialst, and will be supported by Communication Associate, who will be the point of contact on the contract and payment issues.

Description of Responsibilities /Scope of Work

1.    Website Maintenance and Content Management: 

  • Regular maintenance of the UN Women Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) web pages, ensuring all updates are implemented using written and visual content provided by the Regional Communication Unit in English and Arabic;
  • Maintenance of UN Women Country Office web pages, coordinating with the Regional Communication Unit and/or communication focal points in Country Offices to upload written and visual content in English, Arabic and French (where applicable).

2.    Technical Support for Online Platforms:

  • Upload and manage content across UN Women Arab States digital platforms, including the YouTube channel, Flickr account, SharePoint, and others as requested by the Regional Communication Unit;
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the Regional Communication Unit and Country Office communication focal points for the migration of regional and country web pages to a new website platform, in coordination with the global web team.

3.    Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Complete monthly collection and analysis of data and insights on the performance of regional and country web pages. Data should include: total page views, number of visitors, bounce rate, average session duration, top visited pages, most engaging content, underperforming content, search queries, geographical data, audience interests, device usage, to identify trends in user behavior or content engagement to inform future strategies.

4.    Support for Digital Strategy:

  • Collaborate with the Regional Communication Unit to ensure alignment of web content and maintenance activities with UN Women’s digital strategy and branding guidelines;
  • Identify and propose improvements to optimize web content and technical features for a seamless user experience.

Required Qualifications:

Education and Certification:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Communication, Computer Science, Digital Communication and/or any related field is required;
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • At least 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in web management, administration and online support and/or any related field is required;
  • Experience in web editing and/or any related field is required;
  • Experience working in the UN System is required;
  • Excellent analytical skills with a strong drive for results and capacity to work independently and as part of a team.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish).
