The incumbent is responsible for the following: – To collate large sets of quantitative and qualitative Geo-Statistical data at different scales and coverage on the Arab Region. – Facilitate the design of a Regional Geo-Statistical Frame. – To help with data analytics, edits, estimation, imputation, and quality control. – To help expand ESCWA’s Geo-Statistical data clearinghouse. – To design and develop interactive geospatial dashboards and maps helping ESCWA and stakeholders monitor key indicators and trends in the Arab region.

Duties and Responsibilities
Background: The Statistics, Information Society and Technology Cluster at ESCWA is looking to expand ESCWA’s Geostatistical Laboratory and to maximize the utility of ESCWA’s Geographic Information System (GIS) assets towards the integration of social, economic, and environmental data across the Arab Region, to consolidate ESCWA’s geostatistical framework, and to fill in data gaps. The focus is on enhancing geo-statistical data acquisition and dissemination and on showcasing user-centric analytical capabilities for capacity-building and knowledge sharing activities. Duties and Responsibilities: To collate large sets of quantitative and qualitative Geo-Statistical information at different scales and coverage on the Arab Region. To facilitate the design of a Regional Geo-Statistical Frame. To help with data analytics, edits, estimation, imputation, and quality control. To help expand Geo-Statistical data clearinghouse. To conduct advanced spatial analyses to identify spatial patterns and inform regional policy recommendations Responsibilities: • Examine, quality control, and quality assure Geo-Statistical Databases. • Identify regional, national, and subnational Geo-Statistical information. • Develop efficient data collation methods. • Develop and populate geo-statistical databases. • Document the quality, accuracy, and consistency of data. • Develop and implement geo-statistical edits and imputations. • Contribute to the development of Geo-Statistical indicators. • Produce GIS maps, stories, charts, and infographics. • Facilitate information sharing among team members. • Implement data standards and interoperability protocols to improve spatial data sharing across stakeholders, supporting cross-regional data integration for collaborative research and planning.
Qualifications/special skills
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geography or related area is required. A Master’s degree or a PhD in the mentioned fields is desirable. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 7 years of professional work experience in research, analysis, geo-statistics and/or engineering field is required. Proven and demonstrated experience in the production of Geographic Information System (GIS) products and Story Maps is required. Experience in regional and national Geo-Statistical outputs is required. Strong Geographic Information System (GIS) skills is required. Experience in generating 3D models through GIS is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
