JOB DESCRIPTION

Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Secretary-General is responsible for the investment of the assets of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG is, in turn, assisted in this function by the Office of Investment Management (OIM). OIM manages a $95+ billion multi-asset class, global investment portfolio. Asset classes under management comprise global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber and commodities. This position is located in the Investment Accounting section of OIM and reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the UNJSPF.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: • Directs a complete financial and accounting function of the Organization which includes a number of different and diverse operations, including reports on sell/buy activities, corporate actions, income collection, tax receivables, drawdowns other actions which may affect the value of the Fund. • Undertakes special reviews of operational objectives and related financial policies and procedures affecting the Organization’s accounting and financial systems. Takes the lead in designing and implementing required changes. • Periodically confirm with independent sources the investment valuation reported by the Global Custodian • Directs the development, installation, and implementation of new accounting systems. Evaluates the efficiency, performance and enhancements of these systems. • Reviews OIM information for IPSAS financial statements to be audited and supervises the preparation of reports of investment activities of the Fund as supplied by the Global Custodian and Record Keeper. Responsible for the annual budget preparation and implementation of OIM Investment Accounting team • Provides authoritative advice, financial interpretations, adaptations and corrective actions in response to audits and other queries to ensure adherence to UNJSPF Financial Regulations and Rules. • Manages staff, plans and discusses with staff individual work programs, and evaluates performance. • Leads team members efforts to collect and analyze data and provides insight to identify trends or patterns for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Performs other related duties as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, finance, accounting or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent is required.

Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible professional experience in accounting, finance, budget, administration is required. Experience in pension fund accounting or related area is desirable. Experience in accounting and reporting for alternative investments is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
