JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary

The ongoing conflict in Syria has created surges of people crossing the borders into neighboring countries. Host governments and humanitarian actors, including IOM, are providing relief assistance and protection to this extremely vulnerable population living with host families and, to a lesser extent, in camps. The large number of Syrian refugees is posing a growing challenge to reception communities’ capacity and host government’s response mechanisms. By promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities, IOM aims to empower both refugees and members of the host community to become self-reliant, acquire valuable skills, and contribute to the local economy. This approach not only reduces the demand on humanitarian assistance programs but also benefits the resources of host communities.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the National Project Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following responsibilities: • Support the livelihood team in Gaziantep in the implementation of livelihoods interventions such as in-kind grants, job placements, vocational trainings and other schemes in southeast Turkiye. • Communicate regularly with project field staff to gather and verify project data. • Ensure the timely and accurate entry of collected data into a centralized database system. • Collect and review project documents from field staff, ensuring they are correctly entered into the centralized system promptly. • Review the quality and consistency of existing data in project subject areas. • Assess the methods of data collection to ensure they provide reliable baseline statistics for impact evaluation. • Develop comprehensive baseline data for each project component and all project indicators to facilitate effective monitoring and evaluation. • Develop and manage an updated database and information management system for the project plan, indicators, and monitoring activities. • Regularly update and maintain the database to ensure it reflects current project status and activities. • Review and analyze data outputs and tools, including datasets, data cleaning logs, analysis scripts, analysis outputs, and data saturation grids. • Generate regular data analysis reports to support project decision-making and performance evaluation. • Visualize the collected data through Power BI, Excel, and other tools. • Participate in needs assessments with host and refugee communities including municipalities, community representatives and youth in coordination with the Senior Project Associate (Livelihood). • Help identify potential beneficiaries among the refugee and host communities, assist in the drafting of grant and employment agreements, as well as payments and other administrative matters pertaining to the implementation of livelihoods interventions. • Contact potential beneficiaries and organize interviews. • Assist selected beneficiaries by facilitating orientation meetings and/or business trainings and/or counseling as necessary and provide support to them in the formulation of business plans. • Travel to project sites to monitor ongoing activities and meet with local authorities, other agencies and NGOs on livelihood activities. • Keep track of project progress as well as the progress of each individual beneficiary. • Perform other duties as may be requested. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities: – Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day, 5th of December). – Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. – Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities (for instance at https://vra.unv.org), – Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. – Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers. – Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
