KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive)

The Programme Policy Officer (Nutrition), under the overall guidance of the Head of the Nutrition and School Feeding will be responsible for the following:

  • Provide project management support to specific and defined nutrition projects and activities, ensuring a coordinated approach with other units, in compliance with WFP standards and procedures.
  • Track and analyse data to provide input into reporting activities and contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reporting on nutrition activities that enables informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
  • Liaise with implementing partners (internal and external) to monitor ongoing projects, ensuring effective collaboration, timeliness and efficiency, and highlight potential risks to project delivery.
  • Research and analyse a range of policy and operational issues to inform the development of policies, programmes and activities that can strengthen the efficiency and effectiveness of government systems.
  • Support the identification of potential partners and partnership negotiations to ensure a collaborative and holistic approach to meeting nutrition needs.
  • Support the capacity building of WFP staff, partners and national and state government for national capacity strengthening.
  • Guide staff in the States, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with analysis and queries.
  • Enhance the coordination and collaboration with key government stakeholders at the National level in particular the Ministry of Women and Child Development to ensure that WFP technical assistance is aligned to the requirements of the government.
  • Represent WFP at various National and Sub-national meetings and fora on nutrition to contribute to technical discussions and reflect WFP experiences.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Advanced University degree Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, Medicine or other relevant field.

EXPERIENCE

  • At least one year of professional experience preferably on nutrition in the development sector. Previous experience of working in partnership with the government/UN agency/INGO or on projects targeted at addressing malnutrition at the community level is desirable.
  • Has gained experience in implementing technical programs (i.e. nutrition, etc.).
  • Has implemented programmes and provided input into designing operations.
  • Has provided input into policy discussions and decisions.

LANGUAGE

Fluent oral and written communication skills in English & Hindi .

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills required, including strong professionally communication ability;
  • Advocacy and networking skills with a broad range of stakeholders including government, private sector, civil society, academia, NGO and international cooperation
  • Knowledge of research methods with familiarity in quantitative and qualitative methods;
  • Advanced computer skills with proficiency in Windows, Microsoft office;
  • Knowledge of UN system would be an asset
  • Knowledge of WFP programmes is an advantage
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of nutrition and food security experts across fourteen countries

CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS

  • Ability to engage effectively with a wide range of actors from government, private sector and civil society.
  • Very strong communications skills, both in writing and speaking
  • Solid planning and problem-solving skills and action oriented
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and simultaneously manage multiple tasks in an autonomous manner;
  • Maturity, initiative, courtesy, tact and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to handle any other additional tasks as requested by the supervisor.
  • Ability to undertake travel within the country.
