The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Tenkodogo, Burkina Faso.
As Area Manager based in Tenkodogo, you will be responsible for developing and managing all Welthungerhilfe (WHH) activities in the Eastern regions of Burkina Faso. WHH is currently planning the expansion and consolidation of its activities in this region. You will ensure the implementation of projects in accordance with WHH standards, strategies, and donor regulations on content, schedules, and budgets, as well as manage the ongoing WHH programs. You will have the responsibility to oversee and manage WHH programs, but also to develop the portfolio and acquire sufficient additional funding. You will ensure sound management of financial, HR and logistics resources. You will also oversee the security management in the region in close cooperation with the Country Office. Additionally, you will ensure effective representation of WHH to local authorities, NGOs and other relevant stakeholders in the region.
Your responsibilities
- Coordinate the planning, qualitative implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programme activities within agreed budgets, timeframes and donor guidelines and requirements in close collaboration with the Head of Program and Head of Finance
- Identify funding opportunities in the area, and develop successful proposals and budgets in line with the relevant donor regulations and strategies
- Oversee the day-to-day management of logistics, administration and human resources in accordance with organizational policies and best practices, and ensure the proper management of the office
- In collaboration with the Country Office, manage longer term planning in Logistics, Administration and Human Resources
- Identify, recruit and lead assigned staff, contribute to capacity building and career development in accordance with WHH leadership principles, staff policies and overall strategy
- Act as a security focal point in operational areas and ensure the Security SoPs are implemented according to organizational standards
- Identify partnership opportunities to increase the impact of WHH’s programme in the region
- Ensure active representation of WHH in coordination mechanisms, establish and maintain excellent working relationships with UN agencies, government agencies, donors and relevant stakeholders
- Ensure compliance of WHH’s programme work with the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS)
- Ensure that the Complaints and Response Mechanism (CRM) is functional and accessible
Your profile
- A College or Master’s degree in social sciences, humanitarian/development studies or a related technical discipline
- At least 5 years of professional experience working in the humanitarian/development sector
- Experience in access and security management
- Demonstrated experience in successfully training and building the capacity of teams
- Previous working experience in the Sahel region as well as experience working with german donors would be an advantage
- BMZ, GFFO, ECHO, WFP donor experience would be an asset
- Solid administrative, logistic and financial management experience and ability to perform under pressure
- Proven track record of securing funding and developing high-quality proposals
- Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe’s project countries
- Excellent spoken and written English and French language skills
