The consultant will be responsible for:

  1. Web Application Enhancements: Adding new features to the existing application to meet evolving project requirements, ensuring functionality, usability, and security.
  2. Mobile Application Development: Designing and developing a mobile application that provides new features while maintaining interoperability with the web platform.
  3. Application Deployment and Support:  Testing and publishing the application, ensuring its functionality and accessibility. Creating technical documentation and providing ongoing maintenance support to address issues, updates, and user needs.

The consultant will collaborate with stakeholders (Security and T4D) to gather requirements, propose technical solutions, and deliver scalable, user-friendly applications in line with organizational goals.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education: BS in computer Science, Bachelor in Computer Engineering or equivalent

Experience: At least 3 years of experience in developing, installing, operating, and maintaining software systems.

  • 2 years of experience with web and mobile development languages: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React. Swift (iOS), Kotlin/Java (Android), and cross-platform frameworks like Flutter or React Native.
  • Knowledge of native app development for iOS and Android.
  • Knowledge of cross-platform frameworks for streamlined development.
  • Proficiency in software development languages: Python, PHP, .NET, and JavaScript. Experience with the Django framework, PostgreSQL databases, and SQL.
  • Experience deploying applications to web servers, cloud platforms, specifically Microsoft Azure).
  • Understanding of responsive design, accessibility standards, and user experience principles.
  • Project management skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage workload effectively.
  • Experience working in agile environments, participating in sprints, and collaborating in cross-functional teams.

Language: Fluency in English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
