The Individual Contractors will ensure a high-quality and efficient cafeteria service during the transition period, contributing to key goals outlined in the Cafeteria Transition Plan. The work of the Individual Contractors will result in increased customer satisfaction and an increase on the usage of the cafeteria service by the UNGSC, Valencia staff a 15% increase from January to June 2025 through consistent preparation and delivery of quality coffee, beverages, and food items. The individual contractors will maintain a clean, welcoming, and organized dining environment, improving overall staff engagement and usage of the cafeteria. Ultimately, their efforts will support the establishment of a reliable, efficient, and customer-focused cafeteria, paving the way for a smooth transition to a vendor-operated model by 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Special Political missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide. This position is located in the ICT Cost Recovery & Coordination Services Unit (CR&CSU) within the Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies (SGITT) at the UNGSC in Valencia, Spain. The Incumbents will report to and work under the supervision of the Chief ICT CR&CSU or other designated officer. The Individual Contractors will be performing the following duties: • Prepare and serve coffee, tea, and other beverages to high-quality standards. • Handle simple food items, including pastries, sandwiches, and snacks, adhering to cafeteria guidelines and health standards. • Restock food, beverages, and supplies as needed throughout the day. • Monitor inventory levels and notify the supervisor of any shortages or needs for replenishment • Clean and sanitize work areas, food handling areas, and serving stations. • Ensure tables, utensils, dishes, and equipment are clean and ready for use. • Clear tables promptly after use and ensure dining areas are clean and inviting. • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment. • Facilitate the operation of an automatic cash machine for efficient and hygienic transactions. • Set up seating arrangements and ensure the dining area is organized. • Assist in coordinating food distribution from external vendors to staff. • Facilitate an efficient dining environment, ensuring smooth operations during peak and quiet hours. • Participate in feedback sessions to improve offerings and services. • Provide support when catering services are contracted for specific events. • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor to support cafeteria operations. • Monitor and maintain the quality of food and beverages served. • Ensure consistency in service delivery and address any deficiencies promptly. • Greet customers warmly and assist with placing orders. • Provide excellent customer service, ensuring all diners have what they need for a pleasant experience. • Resolve customer complaints promptly or escalate them to the designated supervisor.
Qualifications/special skills
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of two years in the field of catering or related area is required. Food Handler’s Certificate is required Technician in Catering Services Management degree is desirable
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in Spanish is required.
