1. Background and Objective of the assignment
The position is located in the IP eLearning Section, IP eLearning and Internal Training Program, WIPO Academy, in the Regional and National Development Sector.
The WIPO Academy is the core entity in WIPO for training and capacity-building activities, particularly for developing countries, least-developed countries (LDCs) and countries with economies in transition. The WIPO Academy acts as an in-house center of excellence on training, including professional training; a catalyst for networks and partnerships to expand the range and impact of training opportunities at the national level; an open-access on-line clearing house of information on all WIPO training activities, tools and services; and a hub of virtual network of partners, experts and teachers in development-oriented Intellectual Property (IP) training. Beneficiaries of the WIPO Academy services include decision-makers, government officials, members of national IP offices and societies for collective management of copyright and related rights, IP practitioners, academics, students and other stakeholders.
The IP eLearning Section offers a broad range of targeted programs including for industry-leaders and sector specialists, designed to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills to translate IP into impacts and learning into filings. To do so, the IP eLearning Section invests in new digital technologies to expand its offer of hybrid and eLearning opportunities, ensuring inclusive access to communities including in rural regions. Collaboration with IP Offices, government, universities and other strategic partners ensures world leading, high-quality course content with certification courses that are recognized and accredited across all jurisdictions.
The contractor will provide support to the Director of IP eLearning and Internal Training Program and will manage and coordinate activities and priorities to ensure the delivery of the WIPO Academy workplan.
2. Deliverables / services
The Contractor will:
a) Work closely with the Director of IP eLearning and Internal Training Program to support the achievement of the Expected Results of the Program and of the Academy;
b) Coordinate the management of priorities across the Academy including compiling and drafting inputs to Organizational processes and reports including the Program of Work and Budget, the WIPO Performance Report and other programmatic and budget submissions;
c) Prepare briefing notes, memos and presentation materials, including compiling data, presenting analysis and statistics as needed;
d) Assist in the organization, administration and servicing of meetings and events, including drafting summary reports and ensuring timey follow up on the implementation of delegated actions and initiatives;
e) Ensure the coordination of the WIPO Academy’s activities across WIPO Sectors including liaising with colleagues to ensure the effective flow of information, ideas and decisions;
f) Plan and manage the IP eLearning Section’s work, providing direction and priorities for the completion and timely and quality delivery of work products and Expected Results;
(a) Identify, initiate and supervise strategic partnerships, and cooperation agreements for scalable and sustainable organization and implementation of IP education by other institutions, ensuring the consistent application of Academy standards and compliance with the WIPO brand;
(b) Manage and oversee the organization, implementation and communication of IP eLearning and Internal Training Programs, including initiating, developing and maintaining contacts with partners and authorities, and providing oversight and advice on project management practices;
(c) Represent the Academy at meetings, conferences and other events and provide advice and recommendations in the area of IP education;
(d) Prepare all materials supporting the Director’s engagements, including speaking points, travel materials, and relevant research as needed.
(e) Perform any other duties as required.
3. Reporting
The Contractor will be under the supervision of the Director, IP eLearning and Internal Training Program, WIPO Academy.
4. Profile
The Contractor should have a first degree in international relations, geography/politics, sciences business administration, or a related discipline, and experience in the coordination of intellectual property (IP) training projects and adult learning activities. Excellent communication and organization skills. Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English and knowledge of French language is desirable.
5. Duration of contract and payment
The contract will start on January 13, 2025, and will end on July 11, 2025. Applicants are requested to provide an indication of their remuneration expectations in Swiss francs (daily rate).
