JOB DESCRIPTION

Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women Sudan’s Strategic Note (SN) 2018-2023, aims “to consolidate efforts that contribute to gender equality and women’s empowerment in Sudan”. Key strategies for the implementation of the country programme include capacity building, advocacy,

gender mainstreaming, research, information and data collection and the use of media to highlight and inform the general population of Sudan. The SN outlines the overall strategy and plan of action for the UN Women Sudan Country Office (CO) for the years 2018-2023 and includes an Integrated Results and Resources (IRRF) which combines the DRF and OEEF, with expected results and targets/ indicators/ baselines.

2022-2023 Annual Work Plan (AWP) of UN Women Sudan Country Office (Co) focuses on three mutually a) reinforcing priorities on enhancing women’s participation in climate resilient agriculture in rural, conflict, post-conflict and humanitarian contexts; b)strengthening women’s effective participation in Peace, Security and Humanitarian processes and c) strengthening women’s political participation and leadership as priority areas that UN Women will work on to contribute towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment in Sudan.

We are seeking a programme associate to support UN Women communications and advocacy efforts, with a specific focus on promoting the needs and rights of women with disabilities. The role will involve developing communication materials, identifying opportunities, and managing the dissemination of information, while ensuring an intersectional approach to advocacy.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Content Development

  • Support the development of various communication materials, such as briefing documents, articles, and reports,ensuring clarity, accessibility, and inclusivity for diverse audiences.
  • Assist in drafting, editing, and proofreading content to maintain consistency in tone, language, and messaging in alignment with UN Women’s key priorities.

2. Social Media Management

  • · Contribute to managing social media platforms by developing engaging and relevant content.
  • · Schedule posts, engage with followers, and promote key messages, highlighting program initiatives and fostering an inclusive online community.
  • · Ensure social media content effectively promotes UN Women’s core priorities and advocacy campaigns.

3. Coordination and Logistical Support :

  • Work closely with program teams to facilitate the preparation and implementation of events such as workshops and UN International Days (e.g., International Women’s Day), in both online and offline formats. ·
  • Undertake logistical, administrative, and financial arrangements for meetings, workshops, events, and missions.

4. Stakeholder Engagement ·

  • Engage with partners and stakeholders to enhance outreach efforts, particularly advocating for the inclusion and rights of women with disabilities. ·
  • Follow up with local partners on the implementation of activities, including monitoring work plans and ongoing projects.

5. Programme Support ·

  • Provide administrative assistance in preparing programme work plans, budgets, and proposals. ·
  • Offer technical input on programme delivery, reporting, and financial tracking of supported activities. ·
  • Support the development and implementation of programmes addressing the specific needs and advocacy efforts for women with disabilities.

6. Intersectional Approach ·

  • Inclusive Strategies: Apply an intersectional lens to all communication and advocacy strategies, ensuring they account for diverse identities and experiences, including disability, gender, race, and socio-economic status.

Consultant’s Workplace and Official Travel As a part of this assignment, there might be need to travel.

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and compelling messages for different audiences.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing social media platforms, including creating content, scheduling posts, and tracking engagement to build a strong online presence.
  • Background in design using Adobe Suite and online programmes such as Canva.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, partners, and stakeholders. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to different work environments and challenges.

Required Skills and Experience

Education and Certification:

  • · B.SC. or equivalent in communications, Journalism, social science or related field.

Experience:

· Minimum 6 months of experience in communications, journalism, advocacy, or related field preferably with internationalorganizations/companies.

Languages:

• Fluency in English and Arabic is required.

• Knowledge any other UN official is an asset.
