Overview The Surveys and Observational Studies practice is focused on collaborating with clients in the pharmaceutical/ biotechnology/ medical device industries to design and execute robust, methodologically sound RWE studies to inform clinical development plans, as well as demonstrate and support the value and safety of their marketed products. This team is part of the Patient Centered Outcomes Research group which includes Patient-Centered Outcomes Assessment, Health Preference Assessment, Real World Data and Analytics, and a newly formed practice area focused on Implementation Science. The Surveys and Observational Studies team collaborates with researchers in other practice areas including Health Economics, Value and Access, Pharmacoepidemiology, Medical Communications, and Biostatistics, to deliver the highest quality data customized to our clients’ individual research objectives. We are currently looking to hire a Head, Surveys and Observational Studies to lead this practice area comprised of approximately 20 multi-disciplinary researchers, project management and data management staff. In this role, you will provide thought leadership, scientific and methodological expertise, and oversight of research operations. You will provide scientific leadership to RWE studies and apply knowledge of quantitative and qualitative scientific methods. You will maintain a portfolio of research and expertise in relevant scientific areas, along with connections with new literature and regulatory requirements. You will publish scientific work in journals, present same at professional meetings and be a contributing member to professional organizations (e.g. ISPOR). You will support new service development through scientific innovation and leadership. Responsibilities Research and Scientific Leadership Design and implement research studies that supply value, perspective, and evidence for clinical and/or pre-clinical product portfolio decisions, marketing, regulatory agency submissions, and product reimbursement strategies. It is anticipated that the Head will maintain a portfolio of work and engage proactively with clients to drive business growth. As a research leader, will write and review proposals or portions of proposals; lead or support complex projects, while also serving as a mentor to staff in proposal and project leadership. Work collaboratively with leaders within PCOR and throughout RTI-HS to deliver quality services and partnership to our clients and other stakeholders. Ensure the professional and scientific credibility of the group both internally and externally with key professional organisations while lending support to develop the scientific and/or professional stature of staff. Consistently deliver high-quality proposals, technical reports, slide set presentations, conference abstracts, manuscripts, and other deliverables. Develop and oversee proposal development to ensure methodological robustness and value to the client. Provide rigorous review of client deliverables and enforce quality standards. Manage financial performance of projects and provides guidance to others of same. Business Development Provide a significant role in revenue generation and shaping the organization’s growth and scalability in providing RWE services to our clients. Leverage scientific knowledge and strong industry connections to drive business development activity and to win business. Collaborate with multiple practice areas to contribute to RTI-HS business goals. Develop and maintain external and internal client relationships Strategic Growth Drive initiatives within Surveys and Observational Studies and across PCOR that align with the overall growth strategy for Health Solutions. Contribute to strategy based on external knowledge of trends and future changes in the market. Collaborate with Strategic Consulting & Growth team to understand emerging client needs and to share client experiences from projects to partner strategically with clients. Business and Operational Leadership Have a comprehensive understanding of and ability to manage financial metrics, including group P&L and Direct Project Rate and use this information to identify trends and adapt to changing market dynamics. Inspire and create a culture of growth, innovation, quality, and client-centricity. Identify and address staffing needs including effective resource allocation, cross-training, and hiring. Provide mentorship to staff and emerging leaders. Evaluate existing processes and identify areas where new SOPs are required. Work collaboratively with the PCOR leadership team to identify areas of increased collaboration, process improvement and standardization where appropriate. To be successful in this role, you will: Communicate effectively with clients and team members via email, telephone, and in person regarding projects and proposals. Possess excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to apply them effectively. Be proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and oral) in English. Have a proven track record of effective collaboration and teamwork. Thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. Qualifications Bachelor’s level degree and 15+ years of related experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or in a clinical research or HEOR consulting agency, or advanced degree (e.g., PharmD, MPh, Masters, PhD, or RN/PA/MD) and 10+ years of related experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or in a clinical research or HEOR consulting agency Demonstrated project experience pertaining to the design and execution of primary data collection and RWE studies including expertise in the development of protocols, data collection forms (e.g., surveys, CRFs), study leadership, synthesizing data and reporting/publication. Demonstrated experience/knowledge of ethics and data privacy regulations, evaluation of data sources and recruitment strategies, familiarity with data capture systems, quantitative and qualitative research methods, chart abstraction studies, patient-reported outcomes. Demonstrated success leading teams in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device industries, or teams providing services to these industries. Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints from internal or external customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
