JOB DESCRIPTION

Result of Service
The individual contractor should provide the required research support on areas 1–5 to be delivered in a timely manner. The individual contractor should also help in finalizing all comments provided and should provide all statistical-software codes and data sets and programs related to the projects by the end of the contract in an organized manner.

Duties and Responsibilities
Current work in the Poverty Project is based on money metric and multidimensional poverty indices. Reporting to the Poverty and Inequality Project Coordinator, under the broad supervision of the Cluster Leader, the individual contractor will work closely with the Poverty Project team assisting in the following areas: 1- Support with the analytical inputs and bringing to publication of the flagship Arab Poverty Report and World Poverty Report, including the Reports’ launch activities and preparation of related dissemination material. 2- Support in the initial analysis for the Multidimensional Inequality Report. 3- Collect, synthesize and analyze data on multidimensional and money metric poverty and support in updating the key messages portal. 4- Support with project planning, monitoring, and reporting of outcomes. 5- Assist in other related tasks as requested by the supervisor.
Qualifications/special skills
A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics and/or related fields is required. A Master’s degree in the previously mentioned fields is desirable. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 4 years of professional work experience in conducting quantitative analysis of data using statistical software, economic data analysis, presentation, drafting and visualization is required. 1 year of experience in poverty or inequality analysis in the Arab region is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, knowledge of English and Arabic is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
