JOB DESCRIPTION

Result of Service
a. Report on preparatory work: This includes work done to support the organization of a national consultations on the Legal Aid Bill and the organization of community-based awareness session on the Legal Aid Act (subject to enactment into law) b. Support on implementation of UPR Trust Fund Activities: This includes support to coordinate activities relating to the implementation of activities using the Universal Periodic Review Trust Fund on Implementation c. Support with the implementation of one capacity building activity to Eswatini’s National Mechanism for Implementation, Reporting and Follow-up (NMIRF). This includes logistical and substantive support to organise a workshop to strengthen the capacity Eswatini’s NMIRF and the use of the national recommendations tracking database. d. Support with finalization of a State report on CAT. This includes follow-up and providing support to Eswatini’s NMIRF with the finalization and submission of State reports to treaty bodies particularly CAT e. Support with plan to implement UPR recommendations and submission of UPR mid-term report: This includes support to Eswatini’s national mechanism for implementation reporting and follow-up with the collection of information on implementation of recommendations from the UPR 3rd cycle and preparation of a UPR mid-term report.

Duties and Responsibilities
a. Undertake preparatory work to facilitate national consultations to promote the enactment of the Legal Aid Bill b. Undertake preparatory work for the organization of community based awareness session/campaigns on the Legal Aid Act (subject to enactment.) c. Undertake preparatory work and coordinate the implementation of activities using the Universal Periodic Review Trust Fund on Implementation d. Support with the implementation of one capacity building activity to strengthen the capacity Eswatini’s national mechanism for implementation, reporting and follow and the use of the national recommendations tracking database. e. Provide support on the implementation activities supported by the UPR Trust Fund on Implementation in Eswatini f. Coordinate support to Eswatini’s national mechanism for implementation reporting and follow-up with the finalization and submission of State reports to treaty bodies particularly CAT g. Coordinate support to Eswatini’s national mechanism for implementation reporting and follow-up with the collection of information on implementation of recommendations from the UPR 3rd cycle and preparation of a UPR mid-term report. h. Undertake preparatory work towards the organization of a two-day national consultation workshop with stakeholders on the Commission on Human Rights and Public Administration Bill
Qualifications/special skills
The individual contractor must have completed a bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: human rights, political science, law, international relations, humanitarian or development studies or a related discipline Minimum of two years professional experience in human rights, international relations, political science or related area. Demonstrated drafting and report writing ability. Human rights experience in southern Africa including with governments. Knowledge of the international and regional human rights system and their reporting mechanisms. Ability to integrate gender perspectives into various assignments, ensuring the equal participation of men and women in all areas of work. Sound judgement in applying expertise to complex or sensitive issues. Demonstrated planning, organizational and interpersonal skills
Languages
Fluency in English, excellent writing skills in English (spoken, written, public speaking and presentation), knowledge of other United Nations languages or local Eswatini languages would be an asset.
