Mission and objectives

UN-Habitat works in over 90 countries to promote transformative change in cities and human settlements through knowledge, policy advice, technical assistance and collaborative action. UN-Habitat’s new strategic plan 2020-2023 adopts a more strategic and integrated approach to solving the challenges and opportunities of twenty-first century cities and other human settlements. Context

As a response to the war that started in October 2023 and escalated in September 2024, UN-Habitat mobilized its resources to respond to the was impacts on housing, environment and urban related sectors. UN-Habitat is currently co-leading the UN Debris Task Force, and aiming to support the Lebanese Government in a sound environmental management for debris, leading to a sound recovery and reconstruction. UN-Habitat is also implementing a large-scale solid waste management project to answer the urgent needs of 13 coastal unions of municipalities, and to help advance the strategic road map 2023-2026 of the ministry of environment.

Task Description

1- Support UN-Habitat Lebanon in co-chairing the UN Debris Task Force (DTF), that deals with the on-going efforts to promote a sound and environmental debris management. Under this task, the incumbent will have to support inviting for the DTF members meetings (over 20 agencies), support drafting the minutes of meetings, attend important meetings with stakeholders (such as ministries and active NGOs), prepare presentations, and follow-up on agreed actions. 2- Support UN-Habitat Lebanon in conducting research on sustainable environmental recovery, and sustainable housing strategies. And attend the Shelter Sector meetings in response to 2024 war. 3- Support UN-Habitat Lebanon in attending and following up on the on-going solid waste management master plans and implemented pilot project in 13 coastal unions of municipalities.
