Expected duration
4 months, the expected duration for this contract is for forty-five (45) days over a 4-month period, Part-time.
Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The overall objective of UN Environment’ Programme’s Industry and Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities, industry and finance to develop and adopt policies, strategies, practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals, and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. This consultancy is located within the Pollution and Health Unit, Chemicals and Health Branch of the Industry and Economy Division, whose purpose is to address the linkages between Environment and Health and pollution issues. The Pollution and Health Unit is seeking the services of an external expert to undertake a management led terminal review of a project on Environment, Health and Pollution, that has been implemented by the Unit. The consultant will report to the Head of the Pollution and Health Unit, and work under the guidance of the Evaluation Office. Outputs: 1. Inception Report (as per document: 05_TR Inception Report Structure and Contents) 2. Draft Terminal Review Report (as per document: 06_TR Main Review Report Structure and Contents) shared with Evaluation Office and Head, Pollution and Health Unit. 3. Final Terminal Review Report. Performance indicators: The consultant will be assessed in their ability to deliver expected results in line with contract expectations and timelines. 1. All outputs and reports are to be provided to relevant project staff electronically. 2. All reports should be approved by the Head of the Pollution and Health Unit. 3. The final report should also be provided to the evaluation office for approval
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree in a field related to Monitoring and Evaluation, Economics, Social or Environmental Sciences (Biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, social science, environmental studies, environmental engineering, environmental policy and law), or equivalent experience is required. At least 5 years of working experience in project management or monitoring & evaluation and, of which, 3 years at the international level is required. Experience in the implementation and evaluation of environmental or health related programmes, projects and activities would be an asset.
Languages
Fluency in English, including good drafting/writing skills is required. Knowledge of other official United Nations languages is an asset.
