JOB DESCRIPTION

What we are looking for:

The Norwegian Refugee Council’s (NRC) Public Communications Section is looking for a Communications Specialist Adviser to join our team of creative, skilled and dedicated communicators. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues around the world to create and distribute effective content for NRC’s global web and social media channels. As part of the content and digital engagement unit, you will lead on planning, developing and coordinating innovative communications packages and campaigns. You will ensure NRC’s global public communications align with NRC’s messaging about the world’s displacement crises and our work with people forced to flee. You will also be responsible for quality control of English-language content, and so the position requires native-level fluency in English.

The position is a maternity cover starting 1 January 2025 and lasting until 1 September 2025 (with possibilities of extension).

What you will do:

Some of your specific responsibilities include:

  • Plan, develop and distribute effective content for global channels.
  • Collaborate with teams and colleagues across the organisation on content production.
  • Lead on the use of performance data to improve quality, reach and engagement.
  • Work on Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) to grow reach and engagement.
  • Ensure English-language content is high quality, on-brand, and on-message.
  • Help develop and socialise strategies, guidelines, tools and procedures.
  • Join NRC’s rota for media and communications standby duty during evenings and weekends.
  • Manage the procurement of external communications products.
  • Supervise social media assistants and interns.

What you will bring:

  • at least 5 years’ experience within communications, including creating and editing content for digital channels
  • higher education within marketing, PR, communications or another relevant field, at bachelor’s level or higher
  • excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and collaborate with colleagues at all levels
  • fluency in English, both written and verbal, and a demonstrated excellence in editing English language text
  • experience using a web CMS (we use Optimizely), content planning and analytics software
  • multimedia skills are a plus (such as video editing and graphic design using Adobe software)
  • proficiency in Norwegian, French, Arabic or Spanish is a plus

What we offer:

  • Duty station: Any location with an NRC office in a Central European Time Zone +/- 2 hours, including for example Germany, Belgium, UK, Norway, Jordan, Nairobi, Senegal, or where NRC has employer of record services (Finland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, France, Netherlands and Denmark)
  • Contract: 1 September 2025 (with possibilities of extension).
  • Travel: 10%
  • Salary/benefits: grade 9 on NRC’s national salary scale, with accompanying terms and conditions
