With a focus on empowering marginalized communities, particularly women and girls, we partner with civil society, government, and private sector stakeholders to implement transformative programs. CARE Kenya is part of the global CARE network, delivering impactful, evidence-based solutions to address pressing challenges such as gender inequality, climate resilience, and poverty alleviation. Are you ready to lead impactful, community-centered programs that tackle poverty and inequality? CARE Kenya is seeking a visionary and results-driven Country Director to build on its strong foundation of impactful programs and partnerships. This dynamic leader will inspire teams, foster innovation, and drive systemic change in one of Africa’s most vibrant and complex development contexts. If you’re passionate about gender equality, social justice, and delivering sustainable results, we want to hear from you! Key Responsibilities: 1. Staff Management and Human Resources: Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and accountability within a multidisciplinary team. Inspire and nurture talent, creating opportunities for professional growth and leadership development. Champion a results-oriented culture by setting clear goals and monitoring progress. Lead organizational change processes with sensitivity, ensuring staff engagement and buy-in. Prioritize succession planning to enhance team resilience and continuity. 2. Strategic Planning and Implementation: Lead the development and execution of CARE Kenya’s multi-year country strategy, aligning with global and regional priorities. Conduct regular situational analyses to identify emerging opportunities and challenges. Position CARE Kenya as a thought leader in areas such as climate resilience, gender equality, and humanitarian response. Develop innovative resource mobilization strategies targeting institutional donors, private sector actors, and philanthropies. 3. Program Impact and Relevance: Ensure programs are evidence-based, locally driven, and responsive to marginalized communities’ needs. Strengthen partnerships with civil society organizations to co-create solutions and promote local ownership. Leverage Kenya’s private sector to design shared-value partnerships addressing development challenges. Advocate for systemic changes that address the root causes of poverty and inequality. Drive the localization agenda by building the capacity of local organizations and fostering equitable partnerships. 4. Resource Mobilization, Stewardship, and Operational Viability: Execute a diversified resource mobilization strategy targeting institutional donors, private sector, and philanthropic organizations. Cultivate relationships with traditional and non-traditional donors to secure sustainable funding. Oversee operational systems to ensure efficiency, compliance, and alignment with CARE’s global standards. Lead risk management efforts to safeguard resources, mitigate fraud, and ensure legal compliance. Strengthen financial sustainability through sound budgeting, cost recovery mechanisms, and financial planning. Qualifications and Experience: Strategic and Operational Leadership: At least 10 years of senior leadership experience in international development or humanitarian work, preferably in East Africa. Proven ability to lead strategy development and execution in complex, multi-stakeholder environments. Strong conceptual and analytical skills to navigate dynamic challenges. Programmatic Expertise: Deep understanding of Kenya’s development landscape, including gender inequality, climate resilience, and poverty alleviation. Experience designing and scaling evidence-based programs with measurable impact. Resource Mobilization: Proven success in mobilizing significant resources from institutional donors, private sector, and philanthropic organizations. Experience cultivating partnerships with government agencies, civil society organizations, and private sector stakeholders. People and Relationship Management: Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams. Experience managing multidisciplinary teams in cross-cultural settings, including capacity building and conflict resolution. Demonstrated resilience and use of positive coping strategies in stressful environments. Financial and Operational Management: Expertise in managing multi-million-dollar budgets with a focus on accountability, transparency, and value for money. Strong operational management skills, including risk management and donor compliance. Why Join CARE Kenya? Impactful Work: Be at the forefront of addressing systemic poverty and inequality in Kenya. Innovative Environment: Leverage cutting-edge approaches and technologies to drive sustainable solutions. Collaborative Team: Work with a passionate and diverse team committed to creating lasting change. Professional Growth: Enhance your leadership capabilities while making a tangible difference in the lives of marginalized communities. #LI-CM1
