Duties and Responsibilities
The CRVS Research Supervisor will supervise and mentor the 2024 cohorts of Francophone researchers who will be participating in the CRVS Research and Training Program (CART) and CRVS Inequality Assessments Research (CIAR) programs. The specific duties involve: 1. The supervisor will be expected to support the researchers under their supervision to develop the research problem and appropriate protocol creatively and independently. 2. The supervisor should be fully knowledgeable of the course materials in Moodle so that he can support the researchers to understand them and guide them to complete their assignments. 3. The supervisor will provide or link the researchers to relevant sources of literature, reports and provide expert guidance on the identified CRVS theme. 4. The supervisor will support the researchers to develop a feasible workplan, activities, timely outputs that will lead to the attainment of the main goal, which is to produce a publishable research manuscript. 5. Evaluating the progress and performance of each researcher in regular and informative ways, consistent with the manuscript development practice and research ethics. The supervisor will report to progress of each researcher monthly to the Chief. 6. The supervisor will be expected to ensure methodological rigor, oversee the data analysis and interpretation through regular professional meetings with mentee and monitor the development the draft manuscript. 7. The supervisor will run research seminars and workshops for the researchers under his supervision. 8. The supervisor will be expected to support the researcher to develop quality publishable manuscript using his/her professional expertise in the field and suitable research record.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in demography, population studies, public health, social sciences or related quantitative subject or related area is required. A first level university degree in a combination of additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the master’s degree. 3 years experience in supervising research students at postgraduate level undertaking dissertations in the field of demography mainly using census and civil registration data is required. Experience in undertaking advance statistical methods and interpreting the results from multivariable analyses is desired. Experience in publishing research articles in renowned journals in the field of demography and population studies and teaching experience in Demography is desired.
