UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5.8 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA’s services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance, and emergency assistance. UNRWA is the largest UN operation in the Middle East with more than 30,000 staff. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions. Three positions of Project Officer: 1- Project Officer TVET reports to Chief Field TVET. 2- Project Office Health reports to Chief Field Health Programme. 3- Project Officer PSO reports to Field Programme Support Officer.
Responsibilities
In accordance with established policies and procedures, the incumbent: – Monitors projects’ implementation and progress from inception to completion; reviews projects’ progress and prepares interim and final reports. – Prepares budget estimate, monitors and controls financial expenditure of the projects in coordination with the Finance, Administrative Officer of (TVET programme or Health Programme) and other field department; drafts projects’ financial reports. – Prepares regular reports to track immediately any shortage, delays, or bottlenecks hindering the implementation of projects; updates Field Program Support Officer, chief file health programme or chief filed TVET and relevant staff accordingly. – Prioritizes projects related to Health Programme or TVET and identifies ideas for new projects, whether construction or non-construction, and prepares project proposals accordingly – Identifies ideas for new projects and prepares project proposals in collaboration with Programme Departments (For PSO only). – Collaborates with Field Program Support Officer in maintaining contacts with counterparts in UN organizations, NGOs, embassies and community organizations and updates them on progress of specific projects; sources new potential donors and facilitates donors’ assessment visits to projects. – Liaises with procurement and other relevant staff to follow up on the procurement of needed items and monitors projects supplies. – Follows up with Finance staff on obligations, free balances and settlement of outstanding commitments in order to meet deadlines. – Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
