In person. 2 months OHCHR HQ, Geneva, Switzerland; 4 months OHCHR Regional Office, Bangkok, Thailand

Duties and Responsibilities
During the first two months of the programme, the intern will support Human Rights and Disability Unit at OHCHR HQ and gain comprehensive knowledge about the work of the Human Rights Council, including the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process and engagement with treaty bodies, including the Committee of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD Committee). They will meet with and learn about the functioning of the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as well as the secretariat of the Committee of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The intern will meet with other key entities, including ILO, UNICEF, and WHO. These engagements will provide insight into possible joint efforts on disability rights. The intern will undergo training on human rights and disability, meet with thematic colleagues from OHCHR and will learn how to utilize available tools. This learning will equip them with the tools, skills and knowledge needed to effectively engage in international human rights work and connect global level work with the work in the field in relation to disability rights. In addition, the intern will: – Support activities related to human rights and disability, including from a gender perspective. – Conduct substantive research and analysis of human rights and disability issues/events and assesses their impact on the human rights situation regionally or locally. – Collect and analyses human rights and disability data and indicators regionally or locally, including and gender-specific data and indicators. – Assist to develop and implement disability policies and training programs in the field of human rights and disability, international humanitarian law, democracy, and the rule of law, with attention to gender perspectives. – Write a variety of reports, communications, briefings, statements, etc., including topolicy making bodies. – Perform other related duties as required. The next four months, the intern will play a key role in supporting the Regional Office in advancing disability rights. The potential areas for the intern to focus on include: – Support staff of the Regional Office of OHCHR in South-East Asia to mainstream rights of persons with disabilities through their work and undertake disability specific actions. – Support the engagement of the Regional Office with the Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs). – Support the work of the Regional Disability Interagency Network initiatives. – Support ongoing regional projects with elements of the rights of persons with disabilities.
