Your team

Within the The Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, The “Technical Systems” service is responsible for the maintenance, development and improvement of software products which support MUAC in achieving its safety and capacity targets and sustain the growing air traffic demand. It provides also resources to various projects in its area of expertise and maintains technical hardware.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Maintain and monitor the operational integrity and uptime of the all-external operational networks deployed at MUAC and for external partners (e.g. CBN, PENS, etc), take corrective measures if needed (configuration, troubleshooting, updates, …).

The service includes a 24/7 first-line maintenance support desk manned by DCN staff and the Office IT team, the jobholder participates in the stand-by service of the Data Center & Network (DCN) Team. *

  • Perform maintenance and repair actions on the LANs in accordance with applicable operating procedures.
  • Configure the operational Wide-Area Network (WAN) infrastructure (e.g. Common Backbone Network (CBN), Pan-European Network System (PENS), Virtual Private Network (VPN) and of the operational and support Local-Area Networks (LAN) and follow up the lifecycle of all related (network) software
  • Execute network changes and perform verification/tests in coordination with relevant internal teams.
  • Handle incidents and faults and contribute to their root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Evaluate network performance and take appropriate action in case of predicted impairment.
  • Ensure the maintenance of specific network databases (perform updates, troubleshoot issues, monitor and optimise performance, ensure security and accessibility, … ).
  • Carry out system integration, testing and servicing of products to ensure products (software, hardware) works seamlessly with other components or systems
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation and contribute to projects as required.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant area (e.g. Engineering, IT). A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area would be an asset.
  • Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant working experience in a relevant environment.
  • At least one relevant certificate in the networking and/or security product range, for example:
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
    • Check Point CCSA
    • Check Point Certified Security Expert (CCSE)
    • NSE 4 Network Security Professional.
  • Experience in CISCO Routing & Switching products (including wireless LAN controller (WLC), and knowledge in one of the following: Checkpoint or Fortinet security products.
  • Experience with authentication products such as ISE and AD.
  • Understanding of Quality of Service (QoS) and experience in Designing/implementing QoS in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience with network management tools and SIEM. (e.g. Zenoss, CA Spectrum & Splunk).
  • Experience with design concepts in LAN/WAN design.
  • The following would be an asset:
    • Understanding of data communication protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, SFTP, etc.).
    • Experience in a project environment including quality/security standards, configuration management systems & tools.
    • Experience in automation, in particular scripting (e.g. Python).
    • Experience with Visio would be an advantage.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1. Knowledge of German to understand messages from the German ANSP (DFS) would be an asset.
    The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

  • Before receiving an official offer, the selected candidate will be required to provide certified copies of the degree(s) that meet the qualifications specified in the Notice of Competition for this position.
  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract for a duration of five (5) years in accordance with the provisions of the Staff Regulations governing officials at EUROCONTROL. This contract may be renewed for a total duration of up to nine (9) years, or it may be converted into an undetermined contract.
  • The selected candidate must successfully complete a probationary period of nine (9) months before being established in the post.
  • Internal candidates
    If selected, the person will keep their current type of appointment duration (undetermined or determined).
    The internal staff member with a determined contract will be offered, in principle, an appointment for 5 Year(s) with a maximum total duration of 9 years.
  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
  • Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
