Duties and Responsibilities
The internship opportunity at the ESCAP Subregional Office for East and North-East Asia (SOENEA) located in Incheon, Republic of Korea, spans a minimum duration of three months and up to six months as deemed necessary by the office. This internship is UNPAID and fulltime. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a designated staff member in their assigned office. Intern responsibilities will primarily center around supporting North-East Asian Subregional Programme for Enviromental Cooperation (NEASPEC) with a particular focus on two key areas: air pollution and desertification and land degradation. Additionally, the interns will assist with various office tasks as needed. Duties include a range of tasks, including but not limited to: Air Pollution Interns will contribute to preparations for major activities planned for 2025. These include the North -East Asia Clean Air Partnership (NEACAP) Second Policy Dialogue and the 7th Meeting of Science and Policy Committe of NEACAP. Tasks will involve: Assisting in drafting meeting documents and other materials. Providing logistical support to ensure the events run smoothly. Conducting desk research on relevant air pollution topics to support discussions and reports. Desertification and land degradation Interns will provide support for a study focused on the main causes, drivers, and impacts of desertification and land degradation in North-East Asia. They will also assist in organizing a subregional forum to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration on this issue.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Do you meet any of the above criteria? Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, and MS Teams.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
