Where you come in:

Save the Children is forming a six-member Response and Recovery Team to support communities in Shefa Province affected by the 17 December earthquake through education, cash and voucher assistance, child protection, and psychosocial support. As the Response and Recovery Manager, you will lead these efforts, providing strong leadership to ensure the programs are effective, aligned with the Vanuatu Government’s Response and Recovery Plan, and meet the needs of children and families in line with Save the Children’s mission.

You will make an impact by:

 

  • Program Management: Develop and implement a detailed earthquake response and recovery plan aligned with Save the Children’s Response Strategy and Vanuatu Government’s Resilience Plan. Ensure timely activity delivery, monitor progress, and adjust achieve objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Manage a team of five (two coordinators, three officers), conducting regular meetings and check-ins. Set key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide coaching and capacity-building to ensure professional growth and team efficiency.
  • Partnerships and Coordination: Collaborate with government agencies (NDMO, Ministry of Education), Recovery Operations Centre, and NGOs. Lead classroom rehabilitation projects and cash programming and foster strong relationships with donors and partners.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL): Oversee data collection to track program impact, ensuring donor-specific MEAL requirements are met. Document and share lessons learned to inform future responses.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Provide monthly updates to the Crisis Management and Senior Management Teams. Ensure adherence to organizational policies, donor guidelines, and humanitarian standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with government and community stakeholders to align recovery efforts, secure approvals, and ensure successful program delivery.

You have project and operation management and coordination skills, strong understanding of program implementation, excited to learn, adhere to policies & guidelines and able to work in a flexible and high achieving team.

 

This role requires:

 

  • University qualification in a relevant field
  • Program management experience essential, within the NGO or Government sectors preferred but not required.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent planning, coordination, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines, responsive to external requests and strong team player.
  • Effective communication and networking skills to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and work under pressure.
  • Familiarity with Save the Children’s values, child safeguarding policies, and commitment to child rights.
  • Proficiency in Bislama
  • Willingness to travel widely around Efate and possibly elsewhere in Shefa Province to support staff in delivering recovery programs
