Duties and Responsibilities
Organizational setting: the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP), adopted by the UN GA, is a key implementation mechanism for the 2030 Agenda and its SDG 12. UNEP serves as Secretariat of the 10YFP, working with Member States and other stakeholders engaged in the One Planet network which supports the implementation of the 10YFP. The 10YFP is the key instrument for implementing the Global Strategy for Sustainable Consumption and Production through the One Planet Network. UNEP, UNDP and the UNFCCC Secretariat developed a practical toolbox for Building Circularity into Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) launched in October 2023. The toolbox aims to help policymakers to assess, prioritize, integrate, and implement circular economy interventions in their updated NDCs, while supporting a just and inclusive transition to a circular economy. The toolbox is designed for policymakers working on national climate policy who are familiar with the NDC process and seek to connect climate action with the circular economy as well as capitalize on co-benefits such as the creation of dignified jobs. Under the direct supervision of the 10YFP Secretariat, Industry and Economy Division, a consultant is required to provide technical support to governments and other stakeholders in using the joint UN toolbox for NDCs. The specific tasks include: 1. Substantively prepare consultations with government representatives working on climate and circular economy agendas as well as other stakeholders. 2. Apply the necessary tools in the toolbox according to the relevant stages in relation to government priorities 3. Develop a list of evidence-based recommendations for potential CE interventions for sectoral mitigation plans with the supporting data/evidence from using the toolbox on estimated impacts. 4. Support the substantive preparation and participate in relevant meetings and workshops to validate findings and establish next steps.
