Under the general direction of the head of the Fund Law and Policy Division (LEGFL), the Research Officer will assist in carrying out legal research, organizing materials, preparing for meetings and presentations, drafting summaries of meetings and teleconferences, and maintaining various analytical databases. Specific duties and responsibilities could include:
- Research (department’s Legal Records and Library, and internet-based) on Fund law (country-specific/general policy), domestic laws, and public international law.
- Analysis and summary of member-country legislation and regulations in various areas.
- Monitoring media reports, and international, regional and individual country initiatives on issues of relevance to the Fund’s activities.
- Collaboration with lawyers and administrative coordinators to maintain various analytical databases, including the Division’s SharePoint site and other databases.
- Provision of general support to lawyers who may be preparing presentations or writing articles on various legal issues of relevance to the Fund’s activities.
- Any other research, analytical, or other assignment that the Head of the Fund Law and Policy Division may determine, as needed, in accordance with the Division’s business need.
Minimum Qualifications
- An advanced degree or equivalent in law or other relevant fields with professional experience (between 1-3 years preferred) which may include work in the areas of legal research and/or academia. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and a demonstrable aptitude for research are required.
Other Qualifications
- Demonstrable experience or interest in public international law, particularly with respect to the IMF.
- Excellent organizational and computer skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and multicultural setting.
- Experience with advanced research tools and AI would be a significant advantage.

- Please note that this is a one-year contractual appointment that may be extended up to a total maximum of four years, based on performance and business needs.
