The New York Portfolios Office (NYPO) supports the United Nations Secretariat, as well as other New York-based United Nations organizations, bilateral and multilateral partners in the delivery of UNOPS mandate in project management, infrastructure management, and procurement management.

The Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) supports diverse partners with their Peacebuilding, humanitarian and development operations. It was formed by combining the following portfolios: Grants Management Services (GMS), UN Technology Support Services (UNTSS), Development and Special Initiatives Portfolio (DSIP). It provides Services to partners’ programmes that are designed, structured, and managed with a global perspective and primarily serving partners that are headquartered in New York. The SDC has a footprint of approximately 125 countries.


Background Information-Job Specific

The ICT Associate – Access Layer will carry out his/her tasks within the Platform Support Unit in the Digital Technology Service (DTS) at the UN ICT Facility, Valencia (UNICTFV). Under the overall supervision of UNOPS Information Systems Officer, the incumbent works under the guidance of the Chief Infrastructure and Operations Section in the UNGSC Valencia, Spain, provides specific expertise in the operations of the IT infrastructure supporting the UNGSC data centres under the hybrid cloud computing strategy. This support includes but is not limited to the following components of the backend IT infrastructure: load balancers, storage arrays, backup storage arrays, servers, SAN switches, virtualization, operating system, cloud services and tools to monitor performance, availability and capacity of the environment.

This is a position in UNOPS for supporting projects carried out for or in the United Nations Secretariat. The incumbent of this position will be a staff member of UNOPS under its full responsibility.

 

 

Under the overall supervision of Senior UNOPS Programme Manager, the incumbent will work under the operational supervision of Chief, Platform Support Unit or a designated officer and and responsible for providing support on Umoja Access Layer. The ICT Associate – Access Layer will be responsible for the following duties:

1. Access Layer Administration:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Citrix supporting infrastructure.
  • Install, configure, and maintain the Citrix Virtual Apps farm.
  • Install, configure and maintain Citrix and Remote desktop licensing service.
  • Maintain and patch the virtual disks for Citrix Virtual Apps servers.
  • Conduct initial configuration and publishing of applications.
  • Set up monitoring for access layer-related components.

2. NetScaler Administration:

  • Install, configure, and Maintain NetScalers.
  • Configure load balancing, content switching, etc.
  • Initiate requests for public and private IP addresses, SSL certificates, and firewall rules.
  • Configure monitoring for NetScaler.

3. Operations:

  • Develop and review procedures for T1 and T2 operations and support.
  • Liaise with support vendors and clients.
  • Provide advice to clients regarding UNGSC standards and workflow processes.
  • Fulfill duty officer responsibilities as per internal schedule.

Perform other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above

Impact of Results

Works with minimal amount of supervision; independently provides accurate deliverables in the areas of Umoja Access Layer.

Education:

  • Secondary school diploma (or high school equivalent) and six (6) years of relevant experience are required OR.
  • A first-level university degree (undergraduate, Bachelors, or equivalent) preferably in Engineering or in a field related to the post description with two (2) years of relevant experience.

Required Experience:

  • Relevant experience is defined as experience in the field of systems administration and maintenance.
  • Experience in NetScaler and Citrix Virtual Apps administration.
  • Certification in NetScaler or Citrix Virtual Apps.

Desirable: (The following experience is optional. Candidates who do not have it are welcome to apply)

  • Brokering and administering enterprise scale hybrid cloud (Azure and/or AWS).
  • Experience in automation of infrastructure and configuration at scale.
  • Experience with Agile practices and tools.
  • ITIL Foundation certification.
  • PRINCE2 Foundation certification.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP-DCV) certification.

Language requirements:

  • Fluency in English (write, read, speak) is required; knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
