Under the direct supervision of the Scientific and Programme Officer as part of the Technical Coordination and GFCS Support unit (TCG), the focus of the job is to:
(a) Implement tools and platforms for the data collection from various sources including WMO surveys, partners’ information sources, publications, others as needed;
(b) Carry out the analysis of policy documents such as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) to extract key information with regards to Parties’ needs and priorities;
(c) Coordinate the design and implementation of databases required for storing and organizing the data;
(d) Support the preparation of policy relevant materials for WMO flagship climate policy products and reports through the development of text, maps and graphs to summarize the results of the analyses performed;
(e) Coordinate with relevant colleagues and contribute to the analyses of the partners’ portfolio against the climate services value chain, in selected countries/regions/sub-regions;
(f) Assist in feeding results from programme and project implementation into WMO and international climate-related policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, contributes to the preparation of various written outputs including regional reports, evaluations or other research activities and studies;
(g) Contribute to the implementation of activities and components of relevant projects related to climate services.
QUALIFICATIONS | ||
Education A Master’s degree or equivalent in international development, business management, climatology meteorology, hydrology, agro-meteorology or a closely related field. A first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with two years of additional directly relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a master’s degree. |

Experience A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management, data analysis or related area. |

Other requirements – Experience with the United Nations would be an advantage. – Experience in complex data analyses for climate policy. – Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. – Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit. |

Languages Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage. (Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.) |
Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES | |
Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 55163 | |
Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 49592 (in addition to the net base salary) | |
